Thirteen-year-old home school student Seth Sowalskie, son of Rodney and Lisa Sowalskie, was awarded the Dick Shaw Community Service Award from the Great Plains District for outstanding work on his Eagle Scout project.

Seth worked throughout the summer of 2010 to earn money to fund his Eagle Scout project. His project, requiring 222 hours to complete, consisted of designing an 18-foot wooden bench with storage compartments and leading a team of scouts and adults to build it. He donated the bench to the one-room schoolhouse at the Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano, Texas.

Seth and his family live in Frisco, where he is a member of Boy Scout Troop 226, chartered by Plano Educational Association of Christian Homeschoolers (PEACH).
