Thanksgiving Blessings

As we move toward that day called “Thanksgiving,” I am at once humbled and grateful for the many blessings that have been poured out upon me, my family, and the many supporters of the Texas Home School Coalition. At the same time I am appalled that our culture has taken a holiday that was established by the Founders and leaders of this country, to call attention in times of national distress that God is the source of our blessings and indeed our protection, and made it too often a day when we give thanks to “fill-in-the-blank” but not to God.

I am grateful for the freedom that parents and families in Texas have to direct the care, control, and upbringing of their children and for the many other freedoms that we still have in this great state that are too often limited or eroded in other states. Those who know me know that I’m a pretty political person and that I strongly believe we must be engaged in the political and public policy process to protect our freedoms and to fight off the seemingly endless efforts to limit or nibble them away.

However, I am quite cognizant of the fact that all of our blessings rise from our Creator and Savior. I take this time to publicly and humbly thank the God of all that is visible and invisible for not only the physical blessings but the spiritual ones as well. Regardless of who is in the White House or the Governor’s Mansion, or who controls Congress, the Senate, or the Texas Legislature, God is still on His throne and in control of everything, and I praise Him for that.

I hope all of you have a wonderful time this Thanksgiving with family and loved ones. God bless you all!
