As the bell-ringers set up shop at the local grocery store and mall entrances this Christmas season, it always makes me question whether I’m doing all I can to give back to my community or to the causes about which I am passionate. I catch myself thinking of ways I could give more.
THSC offers three events that give the support and encouragement you need to succeed in your home school journey. Your participation in these events allows THSC to give back to hundreds of families all year long.
1. THSC Annual Gala and Fundraiser:
Educates Officials, Raises Money
The 20th Annual THSC Gala and Fundraiser held at the beautiful Westin – Memorial City November 7, 2015, raised over $160,000 to help THSC continue the fight for the rights of the family. The theme of the event was “Legacy,” and keynote speaker Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett encouraged attendees to be active citizens and not spectators.
Highlights Home School Achievements
In addition to recognizing the many officials and legislators in attendance and the winners of the state NCFCA speech and debate tournament, this event also brought out several of the famed THSC Watchmen from the 2013 and 2015 legislative sessions. This group of exemplary young men, all of whom are home school graduates, work as interns for THSC to research, write, and amend legislation that promotes parental rights and home schooling. They garner support from legislators and their staffs, raise public awareness, and increase home school participation in the political process.
Gives Home School Organizations a Chance to Give Back
Katy Association of Christian Homeschoolers (KACH) was recognized at the THSC Gala for donating a family game night basket that received the highest bid in the evening’s silent auction. Gala is a perfect event for home school support groups to unite and partner with THSC as a home school community.
2. THSC Continuing Legal Education:
Each year THSC trains attorneys to respond to the critical need for the legal defense and advocacy of families against false Child Protective Services (CPS) allegations. This year, THSC will host this event, which is accredited by the State Bar of Texas, in Abilene on December 4. Registration is free to attorneys in exchange for an agreement to handle one pro bono CPS case referred by THSC. If you know an attorney, please share this opportunity to serve and support Texas families.
Enables THSC to Offer Free Legal Assistance and Advocacy for Members
THSC CLE Seminars are just another way that THSC is Keeping Texas Families Free and building a network of attorneys who are willing to offer our members the following benefits:
- Free legal assistance and advocacy in Texas with problems related to home education
- Access to a THSC members-only CPS hotline, with direct access to attorney consultation in the event of an emergency (see how this helped one member)
3. THSC Conventions:

THSC Conventions are unlike any other home school convention and the 2016 conventions in Arlington and The Woodlands promise to be the best ever! There is a stellar speaker line-up:
