OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

Our young Texans are our greatest hope for a bright future. As such, it is imperative that we equip them with the tools necessary to succeed in the future, ensuring they are capable to seize opportunities and overcome challenges that come their way. The most important thing we can do to place them on the path to lifelong success is to give them a quality, well-rounded education.

Throughout the Lone Star State, home schooling has played an important role in preparing many young Texans for the future. Home schooling allows parents to develop and implement educational programs based on the individual needs of their children. Conducted within the framework of the family's beliefs and values, home schooling provides students with personalized attention and strengthens family bonds by involving children and adult family members in the learning process.

To bring attention to the benefits and significance of home schooling, the Texas Home School Coalition sponsors an awareness campaign in April. Reinforced throughout this effort will be the important role that home schooling plays in educating our children and the choice that it offers for parents across the Lone Star State.

The opportunity lies with us today to make a difference for the future. Let us, as a state, continue to embrace our responsibility to our children, focusing always on paving their path to lifelong excellence.

Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim April 5-11, 2009,

recognition whereof.
