A Preview of What
to Expect this Legislative Session
The Texas 80th
Legislature officially began January 9 and will run through
Memorial Day in May. It is often said, “No man’s freedom or
property is safe when the Texas legislature is in session.”
During this time, the Texas Home School Coalition Association will
monitor bills and activities closely. We will sound the alarm
when legislation that could impact home school families is before
a committee or one of the houses of the legislature and officials
need to hear from us.
In
Texas, Home Schools Are Private Schools
Some in the home
school community fear that if the term “home school” is mentioned
in state law, it will somehow lead to a definition of home school
as something other than a private school and will endanger the
freedom from regulation that we now enjoy. However…

Executive
Order
Mandatory STD vaccination for 11- and 12-year old girls

The executive
order is based upon school
enrollment, and there is no penalty for non-enforcement. There is
also a provision in state law allowing parents to opt out of any
immunization for their children on the basis of religious or
philosophical beliefs.
