The Coming War Against Home Schoolers
"I knew this was coming. The inflamed, all-seeing red eye of political correctness, glaring this way and that from its dark tower, has finally discovered that home schooling is a threat to the Marxoid project, and has launched its first open attack on it.
"Before long, those who wish to declare independence from the state system (and cannot afford monstrous private school fees) will face endless interference, monitoring and regulation."

Don't Shoot Till You See the Whites of Their Eyes
I continue to see from different sources e-mails and comments that quote a comment or policy proposal by President Obama or a Texas legislator calling on the recipient to take action or we will lose either our freedom to homeschool or some other freedom. The danger of such messages is twofold.
First, they cause well-meaning but uninformed people to react in fear, and they in turn spread the alarm. This often results in people taking action before they research the issue and spreading unwarranted alarm, which makes them and those who join them look foolish, because very often the information is wrong or misleading. The end result is a loss of credibility with the elected officials whom we contact. The moral? Check your information with sources you trust before you pass it on or take action!
Second, calling people to action is akin to calling them to arms. We have limited resources, just as in battle there are limited weapons, ammunition and soldiers. Read on....

All because two people fall in love, the world changes.
Belinda and I had finally escaped on a Saturday date. It was really an "errand" date, but after fifteen years and five kids, she will settle for just about anything from me that may remotely resemble a date. The first stop on our romantic journey was the library, where we checked out more books for the kids and paid our library fines. Our family has paid so many fines we are insisting the library name their next branch after us.
The ultimate destination for our romantic getaway was the thrift store, where I hoped to buy a sports coat. Being the not-so-wealthy benefactor of a seven-person clan, I cannot afford a $400 suit. However, on "Blue Tag" days at Thrift Town, I can get a jacket for about 1/100th of that price. So El Cheapo and his willing companion set their course for the land of many bargains.
