Daytime Curfews and Home Schoolers

clock_curfewParticipate in a Webinar Tonight! 8 p.m.

Anne Gebhart, of Heart of Texas regional home school organization, has been actively battling a daytime curfew in the Bedford area. Join this special webinar in which Anne will explain the potential negative impact daytime curfews have on the home schooling community.

If you think this issue doesn't affect you, you might be surprised! All home schoolers need to be aware that daytime curfews erode our freedom and our parental rights. What is a daytime curfew? How does it affect my family? What I can do to safeguard against a daytime curfew in my area? These questions will be addressed, as well as live questions from the audience.

First Capitol Day a Success!

CapitolBuildingHome schoolers made their presence known in Austin at the first THSC Capitol Day of the 81st Legislative Session! After the fun and interactive morning session, where participants learned about the legislative process and discussed a bill which will protect parental rights, attendees descended upon the Capitol building to inform legislators of our position!

It's not too late! Your family can still participate in this biennial opportunity at the remaining two THSC Capitol Days. Bring all your friends to rally on the Capitol steps and champion the cause of Parental Rights! The Rally will be held in conjunction with the April 7th Capitol Day and will feature speakers such as Governor Rick Perry, THSC president Tim Lambert, parent advocate Steve Spencer, and many more. Be there and take a stand for parental rights!

The registration deadline is March 31, but register soon! Space is limited!

THSC Association Helps in Child Support Case

tim06
Tim Lambert wrote a letter to the Child Support Division of the Texas Attorney General's office to verify the home schooling status of an Association member's son.  A representative in that office had phoned the mother after her son turned eighteen to inform her that her child support was about to cease. She appealed to THSC Association, and Tim Lambert verified the son's status as a full-time student.

As I contemplate the ongoing struggles of the home school community, I am often reminded of the story of Captain Scott O'Grady, the pilot who was shot down over Bosnia in June of 1995 and rescued six days later. He and his wingman, the pilot in the plane beside him, were flying a mission in an area where no Surface to Air Missiles (SAMs) were supposed to be. It should have been a routine flight with no problems.  Intelligence had been received that SAMs were in the area, but the information did not reach the pilots.

Captain O'Grady's fighter was blown apart, and his wingman did not see a parachute.  Scott, however, was able to eject safely. As he floated to the earth, there were obviously many people watching. When he hit the ground, he immediately applied his training.
