GeorgeWashingtonOn Thursday, May 7, our nation will observe the fifty-eighth annual National Day of Prayer. This year's theme is Prayer...America's Hope, based on Psalm 33:22, which says,
"May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You."

There will be special events all around Texas - find a place and get involved.

Book Fair Season is Here!

Spring and summer in Texas bring hot weather, beautiful sunsets, and fantastic book fairs. There are two in May, starting with a Mother's Day tradition, the 25th annual Home School Book Fair in Arlington. Held this Friday and Saturday, May 8-9, this granddaddy of Texas fairs features popular vendors in home school curriculum, helpful workshops which run twin schedules on both days, and inspiring speakers who will have you ready to start school again in June! Among those featured speakers are Tim and Lyndsay Lambert of THSC. They will be presenting Help! What do I do with my Pre-schoolers?

The next weekend, May 15 and 16, the FEAST Book Fair takes place in San Antonio. This is the nineteenth year for this popular event. One of the speakers this year is Andrew Pudewa of the Institute for Excellence in Writing, presenting a Thursday bonus workshop. On Friday and Saturday, attendees can enjoy hearing such speakers as Richard "Little Bear" Wheeler, Jessica Hulcy, and Tim and Lyndsay Lambert. The Lamberts' topics will be Walking by Faith to Help Your Children Find a Godly Spouse, Update on Home Schooling in Texas and Parental Rights, and Getting Started in Home Schooling. They will also host a viewing of the documentary, Taking a Stand in Texas.

Come see us at the THSC booth while you're there! If you renew or join THSC at one of these fairs, you will receive a free Handbook for Texas Home Schoolers or DVD.

Ranger ISD Requires Unnecessary Withdrawal Forms

A Ranger ISD elementary school official required an Association member parent to come to the school to sign withdrawal forms or risk her child being counted truant. The parent contacted THSC and was advised to respond with a letter of assurance. Tim Lambert then wrote the school principal, advising him to immediately remove the child from the school's rolls.

"Are you going to feed that bread to the ducks?" It was such a bizarre question that I just stared at the man. We were at the nearby Quick Mart. My kids had joined me on an adventure that gorgeous Sunday afternoon. It was Super Bowl Sunday, but instead of watching the Dallas Cowboy-less game, we were headed to a local pond to feed the ducks.

At first I marveled at how the convenience store operator read my mind. If so, I wondered what else I might have been thinking for which I needed to apologize. Then it occurred to me that he was merely a very observant convenience store operator. All of his other Super Bowl Sunday patrons were buying beer and snacks. My flock of five swarmed the tiny store in search of bread. The operator explained his bread was stale, hence the duck question. We figured ducks cannot read expiration dates so we bought a few bags and made a mental note not to buy OUR bread at the Quick Mart.
