Please Pray for Jessica Hulcy
Popular home school speaker and Konos author Jessica Hulcy was in a serious accident recently. Jessica's Ford Explorer was broadsided in Melissa, Texas, about 11:30 on Monday morning, May 18. She was hit by a brush fire pump truck (a Chevrolet 1 ton carrying about 3,500 pounds of water) responding to a call. After a 25-minute extrication process, she was life-flighted as a level 1 (the most severe) trauma case to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. After some time of concern, the doctors determined that there is no catastrophic, irreparable brain injury. She does, however, have broken bones, and last week they discovered a torn diaphragm, which was the cause of her not being able to breathe without a breathing tube. We are asking Texas home schoolers to join us in prayer for Jessica and the Hulcy family. They have set up a Web site at which you can keep up-to-date on Jessica's progress. From Jessica's husband Wade: "We have a long way to go (a year) but the prayers of the saints are making those steps so easy for us."

Bloomfield Board Votes to Close Family Home School
The Bloomfield, New Mexico, school board voted to close the Family Home School, which was funded and operated by the Bloomfield school district. It was located on the campus of Naaba Ani Elementary School and was established in 1995 to draw home schoolers back into the public school system. The school became involved in controversy in February when officials discovered that it was using the A Beka curriculum.

Pflugerville Requires Home Schooler to Take TAKS Test
After an Association member withdrew his daughter from Pflugerville ISD, he was required to appear in court over truancy issues. During that hearing the father, due to a language barrier, appeared to say he would place his daughter back in school. The judge then ordered the daughter to appear at the school to take the TAKS test. A representative for the father contacted THSC, and Tim Lambert wrote to the school official and reminded him that the student had been withdrawn and was no longer under the district's jurisdiction.

Choose Laughter
Though I wrote this with families of special needs children in mind, the thought occurs to me that maybe there are others who could use some laughter as well. Perhaps your child is not one who has special needs, but part of God's specific plan for him was to bring joy and laughter into your home. Enjoy!
Choose laughter.
If you are the parent of a special child, you know that some of the things your special child does are downright funny. So laugh. Some of the things he says are funny. Laugh. Some of the things that happen as you deal with agencies and service providers are so ridiculously absurd that they border on hilarious. Choose to laugh.
