CHEACT Book Fair - June 26-27
The following is an invitation to the twenty-second annual conference and book fair of the Christian Home Education Association of Central Texas (CHEACT):
"God gave you children. He also gives you what you need to equip your children for life, including teaching your own children through high school. This year, we are thrilled to have Jordan Hulcy, son of KONOS owners, Wade and Jessica Hulcy, as their summer conference keynote speaker. In case you ever have any doubts about your own qualifications, come and see living proof of what teaching your children yourself can produce! If you've got the grit to not quit, CHEACT has the conference to support and encourage you as you strive to be your family's primary educator."
THSC president Tim Lambert will present two workshops: What Every Texas Home Schooler Needs to Know about the Law and Legislative Update and Dual Citizenship: A Christian and His Government. Other workshop presenters include David Hazell, Gus and Shirley Solis, Carol Lee, Kitty Foster, Roger Farr, Teri Davis, Doug and Patsy Arnold, and Rick Andreassen.
This event will be held at the Palmer Events Center in Austin on June 26 and 27. Online registration is available through June 12.

Hereford ISD Tallies Absences After Student is Withdrawn
After a member parent withdrew her child from Hereford ISD, the district kept the student on its rolls and counted the child as absent. The mother followed Texas Education Agency recommend-ations, sending a letter of assurance by certified mail. She also contacted THSC Association. Tim Lambert wrote to a district representative, reminding her of the state's law concerning the withdrawal of a student in order to homeschool him. He urged the district to follow the state's requirements or face legal liability.

Home Schooling Tips
Paul Terrell
It is good for us to learn from our own mistakes, but it is a lot less painful to learn from the mistakes of others! The following are twelve important principles that my wife and I have gleaned from fifteen years of home schooling. I hope you find something here to challenge and encourage you. 1. Remember that school is not life. This may seem an odd place to start, but it is good to remember that a child's life is not only about school. Does my child have good manners?
... an engaging personality?
... compassion for the less fortunate?
... a good sense of humor?
... a servant's heart?
... courage of convictions?
... a hunger for God's Word?
As we teach those much-needed academic skills, let us also remember to show our kids how to live and how to succeedas God counts success (Joshua 1:8).
