Home schooling doesn't have to be hard! THSC Association offers several videos to help you or someone you know on this home education journey.
If you are just getting started, take a look at Ready, Set ... Now What Do I Do? Tim and Lyndsay Lambert answer questions about where to get curricula, whether or not bulletin boards are necessary, how to teach several grade levels at once, and, "Is this LEGAL?!" You can take a deep breath and relax, as they guide your first steps on this exciting adventure.
Are your children teenagers? You may be interested in hearing about an alternative to dating. In Courtship-One Family's Perspective, Tim, Lyndsay, their son Peter, and his wife Rita share their experiences and ideas about this "new" way for young people to find spouses while keeping their purity intact.
For a historical perspective on home schooling, check out THSC's documentary, Taking a Stand in Texas: The Battle for Home School Freedom. Told by the participants themselves, it depicts the struggles that home schooling trailblazers endured during the 1980s and '90s. Homeschooling: More Ethnic Minorities, Lower-Income Families, and Parents of Moderately High Formal Education?
Dr. Brian Ray of the National Home Education Research Institute takes issue with a recent USA Today article that stated that home educators are increasingly white, wealthy, and well educated. In his review, he cites facts from the original article and then counters with his research. Of the USA Today piece he says, "It appears that USA Today either did shoddy information gathering, poor interpretation, or wanted to offer a certain slant or bias in the story and in its title." Another prominent home school advocate and parent, Voddie Baucham, has written a blog post about the same USA Today article.

Georgetown Social Security Administration Denies Benefits
A Georgetown Association member contacted THSC after Social Security Administration workers denied benefits to her home schooled son because, according to them, he is too old, not disabled, and not a full-time student. Tim Lambert wrote a letter to the SSA workers, advising them of the regulations that allow the student to continue receiving benefits.

Maintaining Balance Without a Counterweight
Sheila Campbell
The sun sets an auburn orb as I leave Lubbock and head for home. Autumn brings brilliant color to West Texas, but tonight my thoughts are not on the beautiful landscape as I speed past golden fields of prairie grass and blanketed fields of white cotton. My thoughts are on home and the many duties that still await me there. I call my daughter, Jennifer, to check on her day and ask if she has finished her essay. I let her know I am headed home, and we discuss plans for supper. As I drive, I think about the Integrity board e-mails to which I still need to reply, and the thought crosses my mind that while I am on the Internet tonight, I need to make my insurance payment and check my bank account. Alas, there is always more to do in a day than day in which to do it.
Home schooling can be a challenge for any family, but single parenting adds another element to life's equation that can make maintaining balance between the various areas in our lives even more challenging. Single parents are usually faced with the responsibility of earning the income and maintaining the household, as well as providing for the physical, emotional, and educational needs of their children. They struggle daily to maintain stability and balance in their homes.
