Your Donations to THSC Make an International Impact
German home schoolers have been in the news repeatedly throughout the last several years; the Schmidt family is the latest to face persecution by the German government. This family has been fined more than $10,000, and now they are facing a hearing to determine whether they will lose custody of their last child still in school. The International Human Rights Group (IHRG), as well as a determined team of lawyers, is doing everything possible to protect this family's right to decide how to raise its children. As with anything worth having, this effort is expensive. The Texas Home School Coalition knows that the decision the court hands down could affect how other countries decide to handle the home schooling question. THSC hopes you will join in providing financial support for this cause and others like it.
You can send a tax-deductible gift to IHRG through THSC. Your entire gift will be sent to help families in Germany. Be sure to write "GERMANY" in the special instructions box as you check out.

Abilene: Bible, Family Time Factors in Home Schooling
"'God has been taken out of schools. This gives me the freedom to teach them what they need to learn.' - Diana Williams of Abilene, speaking about home schooling her children for the first time.
"Highland Church of Christ was alive with activity Saturday when students and parents of the Big County Home Educators met to begin the school year. According to President Kay Orr, the group has more than 200 families and more than 500 students who belong to the organization.
"The BCHE day was planned so parents and students will know what is available for them in home schooling, Orr said."

The night before my twelve-year-old son and I were to start our first year of home schooling, I entered his room and asked him if he had any concerns or questions regarding home schooling. I talked to him about the schedule and the fun things we had planned and asked him to share any concerns he had. He listened quietly and then, with a serious look, he said he only had one concern. I was glad he had thought about it and wanted to be able to nip things in the bud so I enthusiastically asked him to share it. With the most serious look on his face, he looked up at me and said, "What if no one likes me?" I hesitated for a second, not sure what to say, when a huge grin came over his face, and he began laughing. Needless to say, we had a great year last year and are looking forward to our second year as he starts eighth grade. ~ Dora Corley, Houston

Fearless
Pat Harrell
Dads, you may remember Zacharias from the Bible. He was the father of John the Baptist and is best remembered for forgetting that all-important principle: Do not argue with an angel (an important safety tip for us dads). After his voice returned, Zacharias rejoiced and sang a song to the Lord, praising His salvation. One of the lines from his song lingers with me as I raise my kids: "The oath which He swore to Abraham our father, to grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days." (Luke 1:73-75)
