Something to Be Thankful For

THSC LogoWhen home schoolers count their blessings this Thanksgiving season, one thing they may want to add to their lists is the Texas Home School Coalition. THSC is the statewide organization for home schoolers that works to protect and promote your right to home school! (Click on the graphic for more information about who we are and what we do.) While you go about the business of educating your children, THSC Association works quietly in the background, protecting your right to do just that.

You can help support the work of THSC by donating and/or joining. Those who join are eligible to take advantage of all the discounts and benefits we offer to members. THSC Association is continually adding not only more member discounts to its Member Benefit Package but also new avenues to make joining more manageable. Check out the ways it has gotten even easier to budget for your membership!

And don't forget about our lifetime membership! Then you could mark that task off your to-do list forever!

My 12-year-old son was recently playing the electronic version of the Taboo trivia game with his 16-year-old sister. He "passed" on the unfamiliar words during his turn to give the clues and when reviewing his round he remarked, "I've heard of Craig's List, but I've never heard of Dean's List."

When the Plano Housing Authority needed verification of a home schooled student's status as a full-time student, Tim Lambert responded. Maturation calls into sharp focus our views of reality, the meaning of life, and other existential concepts. In the book, Father Sergius by Leo Tolstoy, the protagonist Augusto Perez shakes his fist at God and asks, "Am I a creature of fiction?" This is the central question haunting modern society. In a way, too, it is the question I hear many young people ask.

In 2009 Western society, we are asking that question at the university.

The first modern university was Halle University, founded in 1694. From the beginning, universities have wrestled with accepting truth as an absolute reality or seeing truth as an objective intellectual quest. The quest, unfortunately, has led us to many dead ends.

The modern university is a hostile environment for most Christians....
