Serving Texas Home Schoolers for Over 20 Years January 15, 2008
Announcing the Thirteenth Annual Awards Banquet

danpatrick2THSC invites you to an elegant evening at the Omni Houston Hotel, Friday, April 11.  We are proud to recognize everyday home schoolers who have impacted communities and leaders who have sacrificed to serve and to do what is right.  We are also honored to be joined by special guest and keynote speaker, Senator Dan Patrick.

As a popular talk-radio host, since 1988 Dan Patrick has used the airwaves to advance his Christian values while advocating for a more principled government, lower property taxes, and improved border security. In 2006, Dan took his fight on these issues to the Texas State Senate by winning an election with an overwhelming 69 percent majority.  Senator Patrick succeeded in permanently placing the creed, "In God We Trust," over the Senate chamber, pushing open government legislation, forcing votes on lowered appraisal caps and pushing bills that empower local law enforcement to stem the tide of illegal immigration.

Have a great evening!  Support THSC!  Sponsor a table or purchase individual tickets!

A Special Note to Leaders

leadergraphicWe hope that all of the leaders to whom we recently mailed a copy of THSC Association's Handbook for Texas Home Schoolers are enjoying their books!  Besides being a way we can thank these people for their sacrificial service to Texas home schoolers, we mailed these complimentary copies to leaders because they are usually the ones who get to answer many of the questions of potential, new, and even veteran home schoolers. This book can help them do that better, as it holds the answers to over 95% of the questions Texans ask about home education.

What?!  You're a leader, and you didn't get one?

That probably means that we do not have a current listing of officers and their contact information in your group.  All you have to do to get a FREE Handbook for Texas Home Schoolers is to send us the following information:

Name(s)

Postal Address

E-mail Address

Name of Support Group & City Served

Office Held

Also, if YOU didn't get one, your fellow officers probably didn't either.  Please help us by forwarding this e-mail to them (see link at bottom of page) so THEY, too, can get their free book!

(This offer is available only to leaders/board members of local home school support groups in Texas.)

SWAT Officers Invade Home

Big NewsSWAT team officers invaded a Colorado home schooling family's mobile home, after receiving permission from a local magistrate. The situation came about as a result of the father's decision to monitor his son's condition himself, after the boy hurt his head in a fall.

Dallas Federalist Leadership School Offered Free to Students

novak2Commentator Robert Novak to speak

THSC Association passes along the following announcement for your information:

Future leaders and responsible citizens can attend a unique type of leadership training at the Federalist Leadership Center's Dallas School.

Why a Federalist Leadership School?  True leadership must be based upon philosophical understanding, specifically in the U.S., upon the Federalist thinking of America's founders. The United States can only be successful if these principles-illustrated best by its greatest founding writing, The Federalist Papers-are as viable and central to its leaders and citizens today as they were at the nation's birth.

Ronald Reagan won the cold war and began returning America to its Federalist principles. Through the Federalist Leadership Center at Bellevue University, Dr. Donald Devine-President Reagan's former chief of personnel-is conducting schools for students and young potential civic leaders throughout the U.S. to help revive the Federalist principles in modern times. Professor Devine will be joined by commentator Robert Novak, who will speak at dinner discussing these principles.

The Dallas school will be held

Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008

Radisson Hotel, Dallas Love Field
1241 W Mockingbird Lane

Classes: 3-6:00 PM

Dinner with Robert Novak: 6-8:00 PM

Registration deadline: Jan. 27, 2008

Fees: Students-Free, Adults-$35

How to Prevent Burnout

It's January, and like many teachers, do you have the mid-year blues?  We hope you'll benefit from the following article, a sample of the helpful information in our Handbook for Texas Home Schoolers
How to Prevent Burnout

Robert Oswalt, M. Div.

  frazzled

You must be kidding," Mary replied to me as she sat in my office, dabbing her eyes with a Kleenex. "Me  Suffering from burnout? I'm no hard-charging, high-priority executive. I'm just a housewife and home school mom."

Why would Mary, a housewife, suffer from burnout? She and her husband, a staff member at a church, juggled an intense schedule of demands and tried to balance a slim budget while they raised three children. Furthermore, Mary had committed

herself to homeschooling her children.

It is not only the type A, perfectionist, workaholic executives with whom we associate burnout who suffer from it but also counselors, pastors, teachers, nurses, policemen, and yes, even housewives and home school moms.
