"Chance" Meeting on Airplane Leads to Teen's Adoption
Seeing 17-year-old Christina Friesen curled on the couch with her father affirms their obvious bond. She looks as content as any teenage girl who has her father's heart wrapped around her little finger.
While he talks, Rick Friesen holds Christina's bare foot, tenderly squeezing her toes in his hand. The only hint that they haven't spent the past 17 years together is the way Rick looks at Christina with the wonder and pride only the father of a newborn can have.
She is new to him, and he is new to her.
They met on a flight between Burbank, Calif., and Salt Lake City in June 2005. Christina was returning to her home state of Mississippi after a foster care arrangement with a family in California fell apart. She and her older sister had lived with the family for about two years. The older sister stayed in California, and Christina feared she would never see her again.

Hondo ISD Officials Harrass Home Schooler
Two representatives of Hondo ISD appeared at a home schooler's door, inquiring about her son's absence from school. After the mother sent the required letter of assurance, the officials continued to insist that she come to the school and present her curriculum for inspection. Tim Lambert spoke to the school officials and then followed up with this letter, warning them to abide by the law and leave the family alone.

Just Do It!
I know, I know! I know what you're muttering to yourself: another article on letter writing! How do I know that you are saying that? Because I've said it myself a hundred times over the years. You know--when that little nagging voice in your mind keeps telling you, "I need to write them a note; I really need to write them a note." But you keep putting it off because you don't have time, letters are antiquated, and nobody writes them anymore; I'm too busy; it won't make any difference; they know I appreciate them; etc., etc.
Well, I'm not here to beat you over the head, but to share with you some of my experiences over the years in which the Lord has used my willingness to be available, frequently to be a blessing, but sometimes to remedy situations that needed to be repaired. I'm not an expert on this subject by any means. Even though Scripture says that our words can be a blessing and a curse, too often I make mistakes with my words. But I'm here to tell you a few specific instances where the written word made a positive impact in my life and in the lives of others.
