Texas Legislature Now in Session
Stay Informed and
Prepared to Act
This year
there is a great deal of uncertainty around the country and in the state regarding
our home school freedom. The Texas Home School Coalition Association will be
monitoring the bills and activities of the Texas legislature closely, as well as any
federal issues that could impact home schooling and parental rights. Our number
one agenda item is always to protect the home school freedoms that we
currently have in Texas.
Tim Lambert
will post bills of concern on his blog, Right in Texas. First he will explain the
bill and link to its specific language. Then he will sound
the alarm when it becomes necessary to act on a bill - when bills, either detrimental or
helpful, are before a committee or one of the houses of the legislature and
opposition or support is needed. Texas
home schoolers have had great success and impact by responding to such alerts
in the past by calling and writing their legislators and making their opinions
known!

Floydada ISD Requests Unnecessary Forms
After a parent withdrew her child via written
notice in order to homeschool him, school officials told her she needed to
complete school withdrawal forms. She asked for the request in writing and sent
a letter of assurance to the school. She also contacted THSC. Tim Lambert wrote
to Floydada ISD and informed its officials of the state's requirements for
withdrawing a child to homeschool him.

The Picture Perfect Family
With eight children
ranging in age from twenty to two, I do not look forward to the prospect of
having a family portrait made. In fact, I do not believe we have attempted that
adventure since we were a family with six children. This past Christmas,
however, I decided it was time to acknowledge the existence of those two
younger children by updating the pictures on the living room wall; hence, a
trip to the local portrait studio. I share with you here the surprisingly
painless result. Don't we look lovely? A real Picture-Perfect Family, aren't we?
The funny thing about
family portraits is that there are so many things you do not see. For example, we all appear to be dressed in our Sunday
finest - but three of us are wearing blue jeans, one of us in ragged jeans with
strands of denim dragging the floor. (I will not say which one.) And as we were
getting dressed that morning, we encountered the usual nightmare of finding
socks for three little boys. In frustration I finally exclaimed, "You know
what? It doesn't matter if they match - they won't show in the picture. Just find
socks!"
