Father to Father
How many times do dads take the kids on a field
trip? How many times can a “field trip” make a huge
difference in the lives of home school families, as well
as in the lives they touch? Home school fathers
David Quine and George Clay took just such a trip
and share about it in the article that begins below:
Deep in the Heart of Russia!
A Family Mission Trip of a Lifetime!
by David Quine and George Clay
Recently George Clay, board member of the Texas
Home School Coalition, and his daughter Elizabeth,
accompanied David Quine of the Cornerstone
Curriculum Project and two of his daughters, Betsy
and Blessing, as they participated with the Josh
McDowell Ministry Operation Carelift 2000. It was a
three-week mission trip to the former Soviet Union.
David explained that this time may have been the
best learning opportunity they have ever provided for
their children! It was three weeks of intense ministry
and discipleship. They prayed together, studied the
Bible together, shared their testimonies together,
explained the Gospel together, laughed together,
cried together, played together, and worked
together. They did things they had never done
before! For three weeks all concerns of American life
were set aside. Their focus was upon knowing Jesus
and making Him known! Because David and his wife
Shirley have never felt the leading of God to send
their children to a foreign country for several weeks
with a young youth pastor, their children had never
been on a mission trip.

THSC’s Lyndsay Lambert to speak in Cedar Hill at CHAT Meeting

THSC’s Lyndsay Lambert will speak at a Christian
Homeschool Alliance of Texas (CHAT) support
group
meeting on November 17, 2006.
She will address Learning to Love Learning: If
you teach a child to read, write and work with
numbers, train him in character, and give him a love
of learning, he could then educate himself. Reading,
writing, and working with numbers are the tools of
learning. Character is important because a lazy child
will not put out the effort to educate himself; a
proud child will not see the need to seek further
learning. The love of learning is necessary for the
young person to be motivated. But how does a
home school mom communicate that love of learning?
Event Location:
High Pointe Baptist Church
101 High Pointe Lane
Cedar Hill, Texas

Childcare: $1

German Police Force Home School Children to Public School

In his article appearing October 25, 2006, at
LifeSiteNews.com, Gudrun Schultz gives a disturbing
account of the situation regarding home schooling in
Germany. Excerpts from his article follow:
“German Police Physically Force Home Schooled
Children to Public School
Police officials, in an incredibly inconsiderate manner,
forced crying children into police car
“‘On Friday 20 October 2006 at around 7:30 a.m. the
children of a home educating family...were brought
under duress to school by police,’ a report from the
Network for Freedom in Education stated. The
NFE
describes itself as politically and religiously
neutral.
“German authorities have relied on Nazi-era
legislation that outlawed home education to prevent
parents from keeping their children out of the public
school system for religious or social convictions. The
law forbade home education in order to prevent ‘the
emergence of parallel societies based on separate
philosophical convictions.’”

Quebec Evangelical Schools Under Government Threat

Our Christian neighbors to the north are experiencing
government interference with the private education
of their children. In a National Post article
(excerpts below) that was posted Tuesday, October
24, 2006, at canada.com, a chilling account is given
of authorities trying to usurp parental control of the
education of children placed in evangelical
schools.
“Evangelical schools ordered to teach
Darwin
Quebec crackdown
“OTTAWA - The Quebec Ministry of Education has
told unlicensed Christian evangelical schools that
they must teach Darwin's theory of evolution and sex
education or close their doors after a school board in
the Outaouais region complained the provincial
curriculum was not being followed.
"‘Quebec children are legally required to follow the
provincial curriculum...but these evangelical schools
teach their own courses on creationism and sexuality
that don't follow the Quebec curriculum,’ said Pierre
Daoust, director-general of the Commission Scolaire
au Coeur-des-Vallees in Thurso, Que.”

THSC Letter to Comal ISD

procedure for withdrawal of their child for home
schooling, the school insisted that they must
complete the school’s forms or charges would be

Who Said This? Contest Winner

Congratulations to Denise Hedge of Katy, who was
the first Texan to correctly answer Who Said This?
The quote in the November 2006 issue of the
THSC REVIEW was: “Thank goodness I was
never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some
of the originality.”
The quote was by Beatrix Potter.
We appreciate the readers of the THSC
REVIEW who sent their guesses! We hope that
the Texas Home School Coalition REVIEW is a
blessing and that you will be watching for the next
quotation question. You could be the next winner!
