THSC Offering Continuing Legal Education Seminar
 THSClogo

Responding to the urgent need for the legal defense and advocacy of families against false Child Protective Services (CPS) allegations, Texas Home School Coalition has launched an effort to build a network of attorneys who are willing to help. THSC is therefore offering attorneys FREE registration to a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar on Defending the Family Against CPS, December 12 in Austin, in exchange for an agreement to handle one pro bono CPS case that is referred by THSC.

Speakers will be THSC president Tim Lambert, attorney Chris Branson, and attorney Paul Stuckle. Attendees will receive 4.0 MCLE hours.

If you are an attorney interested in attending, be sure to register by December 5 to guarantee a seat at this important and informative event. Feel free to pass along this invitation to any family-friendly attorneys you may know. For additional information, click on the graphic.

Marriage Survives!  Can It Endure?

Big NewsS. Michael Craven

"At the conclusion of my series In Defense of Marriage this past August, I wrote that the outcome of California's Proposition 8 would figure prominently in the future of marriage in America. If the proposed amendment establishing that 'only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized' was defeated, I predicted it would be nearly impossible to halt the radical homosexual movement and their efforts to redefine marriage and the natural family.

"In a momentous turn of events, Proposition 8 passed! The citizens of California - forced by circumstances - have codified what has been a self-evidential social norm throughout human history. Similar measures passed overwhelmingly in Florida and Arizona, bringing to 30 the total number of states that have amended their constitutions in order to protect marriage from special interest revisions. And in Arkansas, citizens voted to protect children by barring their adoption by homosexual couples. We should all be mightily encouraged by these events."

Texas Virtual Academy Oversteps Authority

tim06
An Association member withdrew her son from Texas Virtual Academy last year and was contacted by someone from the school. That person asked where her son was attending school; the mother replied that he was being homeschooled. In August of this year another caller from the school phoned the family, tried to speak to the son, and questioned the mother about her curricula. The mother requested that the questions be submitted in writing. In October the school sent a letter requiring the mother to fill out a form. The mother responded with a letter of assurance and contacted THSC. Tim Lambert wrote the school and informed them of the state's requirements for schools when dealing with home schooled students.

Have you heard the one about....?

I have always loved the funny lists that people come up with under the heading "You Might Be a Homeschooler If ..." I found some great ones recently on ChristianTeens.net. Here are a few of my favorites:

... you come to school in your PJs.

... your school bus is a nine-passenger van.

... your teacher has ever written your report card on a napkin.

... you get to school and the teacher asks you if you've done your chores.

In fifteen years of home schooling, I have seen a lot of trends. Let us see how you score on my quiz.
