THSC Wishes You and Yours a Very Blessed Thanksgiving!
First Thanksgiving of All
Nancy Byrd Turner
Peace and Mercy and Jonathan,
And Patience (very small),
Stood by the table giving thanks
The first Thanksgiving of all.
There was very little for them to eat,
Nothing special and nothing sweet;
Only bread and a little broth,
And a bit of fruit (and no tablecloth);
But Peace and Mercy and Jonathan
And Patience, in a row,
Stood up and asked a blessing on
Thanksgiving long ago.

Another Reason to Homeschool...
Under the category of "Why am I doing this, again?" file this treasure: "Animal School," written in the 1940s. It is a gentle, whimsical reminder of the importance of each child's gifts and of how easy it is to squelch them when we value the system over the individual.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Requires Unnecessary Forms
An official of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD tried to force parents to fill out forms not required by the state in order to homeschool their child. As the child did not even attend school in that district, the request was doubly troublesome. Tim Lambert advised the district to review the state's regulations and begin following them.

Ten Things Children Learn from Owning a Business
Teaching children about business is one way to bring all of their learning to a focused project. This is one area in which their talents and interests can take center stage, while providing some monetary rewards seasoned with good ol' fashioned hard work.
What exactly are the benefits of starting a business? What can children hope to learn by developing an entrepreneurial mindset? The following is a list of ten things that come to mind:
1. The 3 Rs and So Much More!
The 3 Rs-reading, writing, and arithmetic-are the basics of education. One way to expand or build on these basics is through a business in which each of these operations is used daily, giving a practical aspect to learning. Do you want to teach math concepts such as place value, decimal points, adding, subtracting, and percentages? Have your child count back money to customers, calculate discounts, and figure amounts owed or received.
