An Encouraging Word for the Season
As the school year nears the holiday season, home
school parents can often use a little lift. Mary James
wrote an enjoyable article that is a take-off from a
classic Christmas movie.
IT’S A WONDERFUL HOME SCHOOL
by Mary James
Georgia Bailey sighed as she pulled out of the parking
lot of the coffee house. Mom’s Night Out meant so
much to her and encouraged her tremendously as a
home schooling mom, but sometimes these
gatherings left her feeling so inadequate. Everyone
seemed to have it so together! Their home schools
always seemed to run so smoothly! What was wrong
with her? As she began the long drive home, she
considered her own family.

THSC Association Member Benefit: Dell Discounts

THSC Association is pleased to focus attention on
the discount with Dell, one of the many discounts
that make up the growing list of
benefits of membership.
Dell offers our members discounts of up to 12% (as
well as any advertised promotions) on Dell Dimension
desktops and Inspiron notebook computers plus
special promotional items.
We not only seek benefits that will help home
schoolers as they educate their children but also look
for ways to make joining the Association more
manageable for families who are usually living on the
income of only one parent. We still offer $15 off the
annual membership price of $85 for members of local
home school support groups. In addition, an auto-renewal option gives another $5 in
savings. Our newest budgeting tool is our monthly payment plan. You can now spread
your payments throughout the year. The base price
still includes the discounts.

Science, Education, and Reason??

David Anderson of the UK posted his analysis of the
British Centre for Science Education and its views on
home school regulation on blogspot.com.
“Freedom, Pluralism and Deception
“The BCSE's home page contains a noble, if
somewhat ungrammatical, claim:
BCSE (British Centre for Science Education)
believes in the tools for everyone to think for
themselves - Science, Education and Reason - and
the outcome - Democracy, Pluralism, Freedom and
Righteousness...
“We saw that this love of freedom and pluralism
doesn't extend too far. Should parents teach their
children things contrary to Darwinism, then the
BCSE's members would like government monitors and
inspectors to start intervening. As such, the BCSE
decided that one of its four fundamental priorities
would be to campaign for more
"regulation", "inspection and monitoring" of
home-schooling. In one BCSE leader's words, "a
lot of problems come in because some parents
believe they know better than educators on how
their children should be educated."

Can Any School Ensure Safety?

Syndicated columnist Cal Thomas mentioned in his
column posted Thursday, October 5, 2006, at
townhall.com that home school parents may feel
their decision to homeschool has been vindicated by
the shooting at an Amish school in
Pennsylvania.
“No safe places
“If terrorism has made us feel unsafe and insecure,
the latest shootings in a one-room Amish school in
Lancaster County, Pa., can only multiply our
fears.
“...People who educate their children at home are
likely
to think they made the right decision in the face of
tragedies like this one. Not even a seemingly safe
Amish school can guarantee a child's protection from
outside threats...”
