Father to Father: What Do You Perceive?
Home school parents are often so caught up in the
details of educating their children that it can be
difficult to really connect with them. Pat Harrell used
the title of a Christmas song to convey the concept
of missing what is right before our eyes.
Do You See What I See?
by Pat Harrell
If I take time to view my kids’ lives from their
perspective, I’ll be able to lead their
heart.
I am trying to see the world from my kids’
perspective, especially with my teen daughter Halley.
When “helping” her with math, for example, I see a
simple algebraic equation solving for X. Halley sees a
bizarre string of Klingon hieroglyphics. Maybe you,
too, are realizing that it is time to slow down and see
things from the kids’ points of view.

| Make Plans To Attend 2007 THSC Capitol Days! |
| |
In the last several legislative sessions, Texas home
schoolers have made their presence and their
opinions known to the legislature through our
Capitol Days. THSC Association is now
planning Capitol Days in Austin for the year
2007.
During each morning session, THSC representatives,
legislators, and legislative staff members educate
attendees about the legislative process and train
them to lobby. Each month there will be different
speakers and topics, depending on the current issues
of concern for Texas home educators. In the
afternoons, students, parents, and chaperones will
head to the Capitol to meet and lobby legislators and
then reconvene for debriefing (sharing and feedback)
sessions.
Don’t miss these opportunities for great political
science field trips as you also work toward meeting
the Good Citizenship requirement. Click on the

Capitol Days.

In a Dallas Morning News November 17, 2006,
article, the account of a Rockwall home school family
and their study group/co-op tells how one mother
meets the needs of her children and other
students.
“Home-schooling mom turns to nature for
inspiration
by Jackie Larson
Thursday is Write On day for some home-schooled
students in the Rockwall area.
“In a unique public/private partnership, one teaching
mother is making use of Rockwall Parks and
Recreation facilities once a week during nonpeak
