If Easter Be Not True
Henry H. Barstow

If Easter be not true, Then all the lilies low must lie; The Flanders poppies fade and die; The spring must lose her fairest bloom For Christ were still within the tomb If Easter be not true.
If Easter be not true, Then faith must mount on broken wing; Then hope no more immortal spring; Then love must lose her mighty urge; Life prove a phantom, death a dirge If Easter be not true.
If Easter be not true, 'Twere foolishness the cross to bear; He died in vain Who suffered there; What matter though we laugh or cry, Be good or evil, live or die, If Easter be not true?
If Easter be not true But it is true, and Christ is risen! And mortal spirit from its prison Of sin and death with Him may rise! Worthwhile the struggle, sure the prize, Since Easter, aye, is true!
The Texas Home School Coalition wishes you and yours a blessed Resurrection Day this Sunday!

Announcing the Thirteenth Annual THSC Awards Banquet
THSC invites you to an elegant evening at the Omni Houston Hotel, Friday, April 11. We are proud to recognize everyday home schoolers who have impacted communities, and leaders who have sacrificed to serve and to do what is right. We are also honored to be joined by special guest and keynote speaker, Senator Dan Patrick.
As a popular talk-radio host, since 1988 Dan Patrick has used the airwaves to advance his Christian values while advocating a more principled government, lower property taxes, and improved border security. In 2006, Dan took his fight on these issues to the Texas state senate by winning an election with an overwhelming 69 percent majority. Senator Patrick succeeded in permanently placing the creed "In God We Trust" over the Senate chamber, pushing open government legislation, forcing votes on lowered appraisal caps, and pushing bills that empower local law enforcement to stem the tide of illegal immigration.
Have a great evening! Support THSC! Sponsor a table or purchase individual tickets!
Don't delay! RSVP by March 28.

California Resists Home School Ruling

On March 12 Time magazine published an account of some small relief to the California home educators regarding the recent shock of a court ruling, which outlaws home schooling. (See previous series of news reports and Tim Lambert's commentary.)
"The parents of some 200,000 home-schooled kids in California were stunned last week when they learned that a judge had declared home schooling illegal unless conducted by a licensed teacher. For the moment, though, those parents can breathe a sigh of relief..."

Social Security Representative Denies Benefits to Home Schooled Teen
A San Marcos Association member contacted THSC because a bureaucrat at the Social Security Administration denied her student Social Security benefits on the basis that he was eighteen and not a full-time student. This determination was based on the official's decision that the student was not in a "course of good citizenship." Tim Lambert responded by citing chapter and verse of the rules governing the issuance of Social Security benefits to students, as well as giving the description of the courses the student was taking which specifically mentioned a citizenship component.

The Importance of Natural Talents in Career/Life Planning
In this second of three articles on choosing a life path, Becky Preble discusses how to watch for your child's God-given talents.
... In the last article, I cautioned against letting interests alone define your career plans. I stated that most young people have all kinds of information about what interests them or what they like. Consequently, many will make college and career plans based solely on their interests. For example, a young person may say, "I like animals, so I want to go to Texas A&M University and become a veterinarian." While I cannot dispute the choice of schools (being an Aggie myself), I must acknowledge that a love for animals is not a sufficient reason for choosing veterinary medicine as a career path. You need to investigate and examine the day-to-day job duties of a veterinarian and ask, "What does a person in this occupation do all day, and am I good at doing these sorts of things?" When we start evaluating what we do well, we have moved into the realm of natural talents. While interests reflect what you like, natural talents are part of the God-given design and are revealed in what you do well.
