In February, a member
informed THSC Association of the withdrawal policy
of Weatherford ISD. The school district had a
policy that required families to present their
curriculum to the school district for approval in
order to withdraw them for homeschooling; failure
to do so would result in truancy charges.
THSC Association president, Tim Lambert,
took action and contacted the principal of
Weatherford ISD in writing, informing him of the
law regarding the requirements to homeschool in
the state of Texas and requesting that he bring
his policy into compliance with the law and TEA
guidelines. To read Mr. Lambert's letter to
Weatherford ISD, go to:

Jim
Vaszauskas of the Weatherford Ninth Grade Center
responded with a letter stating that the
attendance clerk and the assistant principals did
not recall such an occurrence at the Ninth Grade
Center and that was not their policy. His
conclusion was that THSC had been "misinformed."

THSC
sent a second letter to Weatherford ISD verifying
that the information received was from a credible
source.
Bill Shatford, Assistant
Superintendent, Administration & Human
Resources, phoned the THSC office Monday, March
22, to assure Mr. Tim Lambert that neither the
policy nor procedure of the Weatherford ISD
requires that parents wishing to homeschool submit
their curriculum for approval. He also asked that
THSC contact him of such reports in the future and
assured he would personally correct the situation.
