I must act wisely--In school, at home, playing, working, reading or talking, I must learn how to choose the good, and how to avoid the bad.

    May 19 is the day set aside to honor and thank members of all the United States Armed Forces. In 1950, President Harry S. Truman proclaimed the third Saturday in May as the official day to honor those who serve. Prior to that time, each branch of the service had held its own celebration.

  • Skewed Report: "Parent-Taught Drivers More Accident Prone"

    "Parents may be their child's first teachers, but they aren't necessarily good driver's ed instructors.

    "Teen-agers taught to drive by their parents are nearly three times more likely to be involved in serious accidents than young drivers taught by professionals, a study unveiled Thursday by the Texas Transportation Institute concludes."

    Councils in England are being reminded that parents have the right to educate their children at home if they wish.

    Proposed Department for Education and Skills guidelines on "elective home education" stress that education is compulsory but schooling is not.

    Tim Lambert warned Tarleton State University officials that the school's admission policies toward home schoolers do not comply with the Texas Education Code. He urged them to revise the policies to avoid future problems.
