An Unseen Benefit of Membership

legalicon
In this newsletter, we have mentioned one of the great benefits of membership in the Texas Home School Coalition Association.  One of the best features of membership, though, is the peace of mind you have when you know that one of the best legal minds in the state is behind you. Mr. Shelby Sharpe, an attorney from Ft. Worth, is the legal representative for THSC. Mr. Sharpe was the lead attorney in the Leeper v. Arlington case, 1984, which defined the standards for home schooling in Texas.

When a legal question arises regarding your home school, don't be caught without appropriate representation. Make sure you have the best person for the job!

Check out the ways it has gotten even easier to budget for your membership! We now offer auto-renewal and a monthly payment plan.

To learn about these options or to join, you can call our office at (888) 200-4903 and speak to our friendly, helpful staff, or send your questions by e-mail to staff@thsc.org.  You can download, print, complete, and mail or fax your application and order form. You can still join or renew online, but the payment plan options are not yet available at the Web store.

Colleges, Universities More Welcoming of Homeschooled Students

CapDays1 My Webtimes.com, Melissa Garzanelli

"...Hart is part of a growing number of students who are taught at home rather than in a traditional classroom. The U.S. Department of Education reports that 1.1 million, or 2.2 percent of all students in the nation, are homeschooled.

"And where colleges and universities once questioned how to accommodate homeschooled students -- and sometimes even shunned them -- institutions of higher learning now are increasingly more welcoming when their admission applications arrive."

Victoria CPS Worker Oversteps Boundaries

tim
A Child Protective Services' employee overstepped the state-mandated boundaries for her position when she attempted to require home schoolers to provide references, among other things. Tim Lambert reminded her of those limits and encouraged her to stay within them.

against low expectations

The Rebelution Tour is a series of regional conferences for Christian

teens and their parents featuring popular teen authors and speakers,

Alex and Brett Harris, and their father, internationally-recognized homeschool pioneer, Gregg Harris.

Each one-day conference challenges teens to "rebel against low expectations" and "do hard things" for the glory of God.

Come experience also what Dr. Albert Mohler calls "one of the most encouraging developments I have seen in many years."

This year's tour is visiting *Sacramento, CA (June 23)

*Denver, CO  (July 7) *Dallas/Ft. Worth (July 21)

*Indianapolis, IN (Sept. 15)

A Complete Education-What Is It?

bible

David Barton

"The purpose of education is to provide students with as many tools as possible to succeed in life.  Experience has proven the need for learning in math, science, reading, language, etc., but it has just as equally demonstrated that faith and religion, too, form a basis for successful life skills. Nevertheless, many of today's educational and legal experts vociferously decry intermingling religious instruction in education.  Two centuries ago, our Founding Fathers confronted and confounded the arguments of similar critics."
