CA Judge Dismisses Juvenile Case That Prompted Home Schooling Ban

Big News

"A judge in California has ended juvenile court jurisdiction over two children in a family case that prompted an appeals court at one point to declare that parents had no right to homeschool their children in the state.

"The opinion in the Rachel L. case when WND broke the story in February rocked the foundations of homeschooling in the state and across the nation, because of its implications that without such rights, parents could be liable for civil and criminal penalties simply for teaching their own children at home."

Tarrant County College Requires Notarized Transcripts

tim06

After several Association members expressed concern over Tarrant County College's (TCC) policy which requires notarized transcripts from home schoolers, Tim Lambert wrote a letter to the Director of Admissions and Records. He noted that while the college's Web site requires an "official transcript," once parents and students present the transcript, they are told it must be notarized. He stated that the policy seemed arbitrary and designed to make enrollment by home schoolers difficult. He suggested alternative methods to ensure that transcripts are secure and official.

Attitude Adjustment
Do You Need an Attitude Adjustment?

Sue Ellen Haning

  confused

How can we move forward with school each week when obstacles push us back?  After all, there are only twenty-four hours in the day! We all face challenges like aging parents, a spouse who has surgery with a three-month window of recovery, no money to purchase curriculum, relationship problems, job loss, tornado damage to the house, sudden death of a loved one, special-needs foster child, two-year-olds, teenagers, mothers-in-law, and on go the possibilities. Does it ever end? Yes, it ends when you end. Webster says life is "the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body or inanimate matter." You had better hope the challenges and tasks keep coming! You are alive!

More importantly, it is our attitudes and actions toward these challenges that weaken or strengthen us and those around us. The influence of our decisions on those around us is immeasurable. What lessons our children learn from us during troubled times! Since each of our actions is preceded by a thought, maybe our thinking needs to be addressed. We are often too ready to adjust our children's attitudes from time to time, but maybe we need an attitude adjustment.
