Meet Keynote Speaker Dr. Jeff Myers
THSC is pleased to present Dr. Jeff Myers at our 2008 Convention! Dr. Myers is the author of six books and three video coaching systems, including Understanding the Times - the curriculum that introduced the concept of worldview training to nearly half of America's evangelical schools. His coaching programs on worldviews, leadership, and communication have been used to train more than two million students. Two years ago Dr. Myers formed Passing the Baton International, which has helped more than 500 schools and churches become nerve centers for leadership training. Dr. Myers holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Denver. He, his wife Danielle, and their four children live in eastern Tennessee where Jeff is associate professor of communication and leadership at Bryan College. During the three days of the Convention, Dr. Myers will deliver the following workshops: The Christian Worldview - A Call to Reason Winning the Hearts of Children without Losing Your Mind Growing Wiser; Playing It Smart in an Age of Fools, Buffoons, and Idiots From Playpen to Podium: How to Give Your Children the Communication Skills They Need to Succeed Passing the Baton to Our Children

Ector County Requires Unnecessary Notification
After a school official at Ector County ISD informed an Association member that she would need to send the school notification of her intent to homeschool each year, the member contacted Tim Lambert. Mr. Lambert wrote a letter to the district representative explaining that the requirement is not in compliance with the state of Texas' policy concerning home schooling and urged the district to come into compliance with the state's actual policy.

Homeschooling Through Life's Difficulties
n the May 2003 issue of the REVIEW, I introduced our family and told about our trial when our son was diagnosed with and died of a brain tumor. The year Zachary was sick, he went through drug therapy and radiation, a brief respite of health, and then his relapse and passing away in the fall of 1994. Following his passing, we had a year of recovery and re-grouping. Needless to say, it was not our greatest two years of home schooling.
As home schoolers we sometimes face difficulties. Whether it is a move, a difficult child, illness of a family member or yourself, life's problems can seem insurmountable in the face of more responsibility and less time. Home schooling is hard without problems, but what does one do when the problems get big enough for you to ask the question, "Should I keep homeschooling?"
