Serving Your Local Home School Support Group
Do you see things that “should be different” in your
support group or things that “should be done”?
Consider that this may be the beginning of your
calling. THSC board member, Bill Keating, wrote an
article in which he expresses seeing needs and the
life of the support group. Enjoy the article:
Are You Ready To Be an Oarsman?
By Bill Keating
“I want to serve, but now is not a good time.”
Possibly you have heard these words. Probably you
have spoken these words.

Announcing Advance Convention Registration!

Forgot to pre-register for the 2006 THSC State
Convention and Family Conference? Wishing you
could have taken care of it in advance and sorry that
you missed out on the Thursday field trip to the
Battleship Texas? THSC has opened Advance
Registration just for people like you!
What is Advance Registration?
Although the pre-registration prices are no longer
available, by registering in advance you can still
get discount tickets to area attractions,
save time and money by ordering on-site
lunches, and you’ll get to use the pre-
registration line when you arrive! Sign up for the
Thursday Battleship Texas field trip or
register your teen for the Teen Staff Program, but
hurry. Space is limited, and these are not
available when you register on-site!
Limited space is still available in the Teen Staff Program (TSP)!
Bring your teen to enjoy a mix of working essential
Convention jobs, attending entertaining and
educational workshops, and participating in fun
activities. Mike Snavely, of Mission
Imperative, will present workshops that challenge
the myths of evolution and shore up the truths of
creation. He’ll show how science does not support
the evolutionary theory and give “tools” to combat
it.
Not only that, your teen will be able to prove he’s
been there, done that; he’ll get a free T-shirt to
prove it! The TSP is only available to teens
registered in advance and while space is available, so
be sure to sign up before it’s too late! Advance
registration ends July 14th.

Home Schoolers Under Fire

In an article by Alexandra Colen, which appears at
brusselsjournal.com, June 20, 2006, the reader sees a
chilling account of the effects of the UN Convention
on the Rights of the Child. Excerpts of the article
follow:
“Crackdown on Homeschoolers: It’s the UN Wot
Done It
“In today’s Belgian newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen
Bob Van de Voorde, the spokesman of Frank
Vandenbroucke, the minister of Education,
says:
“‘One of the conditions [for homeschooling] is that
the homeschoolers must sign a document in which
they promise to rear their children along the lines of
the UN Convention on Children’s Rights. These
parents have not done this. This is why the ministry
has started an inquiry.’”
