Avoiding the Dangers of Over-Scheduling
Feel overburdened with academics? You are not
alone. Sometimes, in our desire to give children the
best education possible, we forget why we started
homeschooling. In an article that appeared in the
August 2004 THSC REVIEW magazine, Sheila
Campbell explains why it is important to take time to
smell the roses.
“Learning by Osmosis”
In the highly competitive society in which we live
today, many parents feel the need to expand the
education of their children beyond basic academics.
Many children now belong to one or more teams,
have lessons in music, art, foreign language, and
participate in other extracurricular activities. All of
these activities are good; however, the combination
of two or more may leave children (and parents as
well) tired and stressed, with little or no time to
themselves.

A Time To Remember

When terrorists hit the World Trade Center in 2001,
America mourned its loss but resolved never to forget.
A few months later, Congress passed a joint
resolution that named every September 11th as
Patriot
Day. As the anniversary approaches again this year,
take time to remember appropriately the more than
3,000 people who lost their lives that day.

THSC’s Tim Lambert to Speak on Good Citizenship Requirement

Tim Lambert will speak next week on "Fulfilling the
Good Citizenship Requirement" and a Christian’s
responsibility to be involved.
How do you incorporate good citizenship into your
school? Tim will address maintaining priorities and a
balance between academics and activism while
involving the whole family in teaching government
and politics at all levels. Tim believes that
involvement is vital to maintaining parents' rights to
direct the education and upbringing of their children
and encourages families to take a synergistic
approach to teaching their children about
government in the classroom while participating in
practical ways.
He will address the importance of being involved in
the upcoming elections and THSC’s Capitol Days.

Home Schooling In the News: Olympic Dreams

A flexible schedule has proven to be one of home
schooling’s most valuable assets, and athletes have
found this particularly true as they strive to spend
more time dedicated to their sport. In her August 23
article, Jodie Wagner of the Palm Beach Post
tells the
story of one female gymnast who discovered these
benefits.
“Olympic dreams propel gymnast to balance
school,
training”
For the first time in seven years, Rebecca Langmeyer
was not in class on the first day of school.
Instead of hitting the books with her fellow Osceola
Creek Middle School seventh-graders, the
12-year-old Loxahatchee resident was hitting her
dismounts
at Palm Beach Gymnastics.
In between, she tackled her math homework.

THSC T-Shirt Design Winners!

THSC Association was pleased and overwhelmed by
all the great T-shirt design submissions in our recent
contest. We knew that Texas was filled with talent
among the home school community, and you all did
yourselves proud! Congratulations to each and every
participant!
To the right is Tim Lambert announcing the winners
at THSC's State Convention and Family Conference.
There were so many wonderful designs that it was a
very difficult choice. We could not decide on just
one, so we just selected two winners!
Congratulations to Madison Hughs (age 11) of Pampa
and home school mom, Kem Crisman, of Garland! Y’all
did a great job!
