Texas Supreme Court Favors Religious Schools in Decision
THSC legal counsel, Shelby Sharpe, has announced what he considers his most momentous court victory since the Leeper decision which clarified in that 1994 Texas Supreme Court Case that home schools in Texas are private schools. In this most recent case, seminaries had sued the state of Texas, after fines and sanctions were imposed on them for conferring diplomas for religious studies completed by students, even though the schools had not sought or accepted state approval for their programs. The Texas Supreme Court ruled that the state may not control religious schools.

"Concerned" Citizens Express Anxiety in Letter to Tim Lambert
Tim Lambert received the following e-mail from two concerned citizens:
My husband and I recently met a couple in an RV park that had a set of twin girls that were 9 years old. They told us they were home schooling these girls. The girls could not write, read or count!!! We went to the web to find out what the Texas criteria is for home schooling and found your website and began reading. The more we read the more we were appalled. You condone, sanction and counsel illiteracy!!! For the first time we were not proud of being Texans....

Why Math Matters
Robert Cook
In 1999, a certain group of people neglected some fundamental mathematic procedures, along with some of their own checks and balances, with very unfortunate and expensive consequences. They neglected some important steps that anybody learning math, including home schoolers, should follow. These people were the engineers and flight controllers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), part of the California Institute of Technology, under contract to NASA for the Mars Climate Observer spacecraft. So it can happen to the best!
