THSC State Convention and Family Conference-
A Great Way to End the Summer
Another great THSC State Convention has come and gone! See a slideshow of Convention highlights.... The THSC State Convention and Family Conference took place August 14-16. Starting on Thursday with a field trip to Washington-on-the Brazos and a free evening session led by Dr. Jeff Myers and followed by a showing of the THSC documentary Taking a Stand in Texas: The Battle for Home School Freedom, the Convention just got better as the weekend progressed!
The convention hall opened early Friday morning, and at 9:30 the speaker sessions and exhibitor workshops commenced. With five concurrent workshops throughout Friday and Saturday, it was tough to choose which session to attend. (To purchase workshop recordings, visit Rhino Technologies.) Attendees also had to save time to shop the more than 180 exhibitor booths because somewhere out there was the perfect piece of curriculum! Thank goodness for the lunch and coffee breaks!
Great evening programs rounded out each day, and tired but happy conference-goers joined Jim Weiss on Friday evening as he regaled them with tales of Real Life Heroes: Fascinating Stories of Great People. The fun continued Saturday evening, with the families joining crowd-favorite John Erickson, who presented them with A Lesson in Life from Hank the Cowdog.
Attendees also had some options that aren't often associated with home school conventions. This year THSC and Texas Special Kids partnered together to sponsor the Special Buddies Program, and many families with special needs children were able to attend, some for the first time! On Saturday afternoon, during the shopping and coffee break, fellowships were held for families who are home schooling with special circumstances, and many received the encouragement and support only available from those who've been there, done that. THSC thanks everyone who contributed to the success of the Convention, especially the dedicated families whom it is our pleasure and blessing to serve. Make plans now to experience next year's State Convention and Family Conference, August 6-8, in The Woodlands. It could be the vacation of a lifetime!
