THSC CONGRATULATIONS!

We hope that everyone is enjoying the new format for the “Congratulations!” column. After much discussion over the past few years, the editorial board made the decision to post these encouraging accounts of home school student successes on the website. It keeps us from the limited schedule of only having new information in a quarterly publication; in addition, we can update information as it becomes available rather than filing and retrieving on the schedule of the magazine. We are not limited by available pages in the magazine. After this big introduction about the positives, we will make every effort to live up to the claims.

We are pleased to share the accomplishments and appreciate the submissions!

Jon Cuyler

Jon Cuyler of Little Elm won 3rd place in Individual National Orienteering Championships in OM-16 Category.  He won the 3rd place Championship medal for 2005 (annual) by competing in a 2-day, 10.7- total- kilometer orienteering (land navigation) race in Bend, Oregon and finished in 3rd fastest time.

Anyone interested in this competition, should visit http://www.us.orienteering.org/, the official site for the United States Orienteering Federation, and get the information on the next National Championship.  Register, attend, and compete.  It would be advisable to research local orienteering clubs and participate in local meets to gain knowledge and skill prior to a national competition.

Robbie Paddock

Robbie Paddock of Plano won overall high school national champion in orienteering, a won two-day national championship. The event is open to all high schoolers.  Information on local (North Texas and regional) events is available at the NTOA website (www.ntoa.com).

Check with your local Boy Scouts to see if they can supply additional information on competitions.

If you are a parent/teacher of a student whose accomplishments you would like to see spotlighted in this column, complete the Congratulations Form, or you can contact THSC by phone at (806) 744-4441 or by email at staff@thsc.org. We prefer to receive information and photos by email but can work with the completed form and photo sent by U.S. mail to PO Box 6747, Lubbock, TX 79493. If you want your photo back, please enclose SASE.
