THSC Association

Letter to

Conroe ISD

September 17, 2009

Mr. Robert A. MacFarlane

Assistant Principal

York Junior High School

3515 Waterbend Cove

Spring, Texas 77386

Mr. MacFarlane:

...

I am writing in response to your communications with Mr. and Mrs. K_____ (D_____) S_____, members of our Association.  According to postal records, on August 21, 2009, Mrs. S_____ gave written notice via certified mail of the withdrawal of their son J_____ B_____ S_____ to teach him at home.  On August 31, when the family had not received the return receipt that was requested, Mrs. S_____ called the York Junior High office to inquire about the status of J_____’s withdrawal.  During this call, she volunteered, to a special education teacher in your school, the name of the school through which the S_____s were pursuing J_____’s education.  No one at the school acknowledged the withdrawal of their son.

Subsequent attempts to deliver the certified letter, verified by Internet tracking, were not accepted.  On September 15, the S_____s received calls from your office and an email from you expressing concern that J_____ had not been at school and that no school had requested his records. Mrs. S_____ responded to this request, at our instruction, by faxing to your office a copy of her original letter of withdrawal dated August 21, 2009, as well as sending this information again via certified mail.

Since Mr. and Mrs. S_____ have given written notice of the withdrawal of their child, the child should be disenrolled effective August 21, 2009. I have enclosed the most recent letter from the Texas Commissioner of Education on this issue for your review. Should you have any further questions regarding this situation, I would be more than happy to discuss them with you.

Sincerely,

Tim Lambert
