4:00-5:00 p.m. Seven Qualities of a Leader ~ Norm Wakefield The Apostle Paul had the heart of a leader for the members of the churches he planted. How did he face his weaknesses and opponents to his leadership? Many of his weaknesses and problems are those to which most can relate. The insights from Second Corinthians will give you some practical encouragement in how to be a leader of your support group.
5:15-6:00 p.m. State of the State ~ Tim Lambert It is important for leaders to have the “big picture”! Join Tim as he explains what has been happening in and around our great state. Earlier this year the Texas legislature addressed some issues that could impact home schoolers, and the outcome of next year’s elections will make a difference as well. Come and learn about these issues and their potentials for good or harm, and what you and your group can do to make a difference.

7:00-8:15 p.m. Revival in America: Building a Godly Legacy for Generations ~ Norm Wakefield America is in great need of a spiritual revival. How does the home education movement figure into a coming revival? In this message, Norm expresses God’s heart and vision for revival and how God could use the home schooling movement to transform families, churches, cities, states, and a nation. It is vital that leaders see how God wants to use them to express His heart as they build a godly legacy for the next generation.

8:50-10:00 a.m. Leadership Lessons Learned the Hard Way - Part I ~ Norm Wakefield The Apostle Peter is a person to whom most leaders can relate. There are five important lessons that are glaring in Peter's experience from which leaders must learn to be effective. This session will cover the first two lessons: · Leadership Requires Humility · Leadership Requires Selflessness
10:15-11:15 a.m. Workshop Sessions Support Group Finances ~ Pat Hurd This workshop will cover an important subject that impacts EVERY group, whether small, medium or large: money management. Topics will include getting an Employer Identification Number and a checking account (and why it’s not good to use your own bank account), record keeping, making and using a budget, collecting dues (how much is enough/too much?), using volunteers vs. having employees, becoming a 501(c)(3) organization and more. Motivating Your Members ~ Denise Hyde and Kristen Fagala All groups deal with the 80/20 rule. Come to this workshop and find out how to move your group from apathetic to vibrant. Learn how to motivate your members and discover secrets that encourage others to volunteer. Keeping in Touch~ Lyndsay Lambert, Tillery Sims, Anne Gebhart, What's the best way to keep your members informed? There are SO many choices: websites, newsletters, electronic networking. Join us for this uplifting and informative discussion on how to have support group communications that inform, but also encourage and connect.
11:30-12:30 p.m. Great Ideas from Around the State (Round Table Discussions by Group Size) Texas is blessed with many diverse support groups. One of the blessings of coming to the LTC is getting to meet with and learn from other leaders. During this time, attendees will have the opportunity to share with those in groups of similar size. Get ready to be inspired and encouraged with some new ideas!

1:30-2:30 p.m. Workshop Sessions Positive Socialization for Teens~ Anita Crumby Make your support group a place where teens feel welcome to come and participate in fun social activities, volunteer ministries, and educational experiences in an atmosphere of strong Christian values. This workshop will cover the purpose and general structure of a teen group, how to get started, how to choose activities, how to incorporate teen leadership into the group, how to maintain discipline and a high standard for behavior, and dealing with conflict. Keeping the Peace ~ Greg Wilhelm How do you deal with conflicts in the support group setting? Home schoolers by and large are independent and strong-willed, or they would not be homeschooling. This workshop will cover scriptural principles (as outlined by Peacemaker Ministries) that will help you in your work with home schoolers in your group. Serving Those Who Need It Most ~ Doug and Patsy Arnold, Sheila Campbell There are more and more families with special needs children and single moms joining the home school community. Learn about what support groups can do to encourage and minister to families whose unique situations make home schooling even more challenging.

4:30-5:20 p.m. Open Forum: What's on Your Mind? Here’s your chance to ask that question that’s been burning on your mind. Whether your question has to do with the Texas Home School Coalition, what’s going on in Texas or cities other than yours, finding answers to questions your members have asked, or whatever, this is your opportunity to get answers or have a chance to share what’s on your mind.

8:30 p.m. Movie, Dessert and Fellowship Video: Miracle in Texas ~ Shelby Sharpe Attorney Shelby Sharpe shares his moving story of the Leeper case, detailing God’s hand in the battle surrounding home schooling in Texas. He shares the many ways that God directed and guided in the development of that legal case, and he is still often overcome with emotion as he contemplates the divine provision and intervention that ultimately resulted in a unanimous decision by the Texas Supreme Court, moving the state of Texas from one of the most difficult states in which to homeschool to one of the best.
