The early rush of the new Democratic majority in Congress has been slowed to a walk, but the Republicans still have not adjusted to being in the minority. At this week's conference of House Republicans, the leaders were surprisingly passive in dealing with Democrats' efforts to control Iraq War operations through the supplemental appropriations bill. Oddly, the most impassioned oratory came from Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.), ranking Republican on the House Appropriations Committee.

  • Senator Glenn Hegar – Press Release
    Texas State Senator Glenn Hegar (R, Katy) sent a letter to the acting Executive Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Albert Hawkins, asking him to clarify his intentions regarding Governor Perry's executive order mandating that 11 and 12 year old girls be given multiple doses of the Gardasil HPV vaccine before they can attend Texas public schools.

    House Rebuts Perry Order on Cancer Vaccine; Veto Showdown Ahead?
    Texas House members Tuesday edged the GOP-majority Legislature toward a spring confrontation with Republican Gov. Rick Perry by tentatively voting to unplug his order requiring preteen girls to get a vaccine that can prevent some cases of cervical cancer.
