Evans Novak Political Report
The attitude of Capitol Hill Republicans
toward President George W. Bush has reached a
new low with Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales'
incompetent handling of the U.S. attorneys
matter. It is not just that there is so
little GOP support for Gonzales, but that
there is considerable distancing from the
President. There is a consensus among
congressional Republicans that Bush's
policies -- starting with Iraq -- are at the
heart of the party's problems.

through March 26th shows Rudy Giuliani
increasing his lead among Republicans while
Hillary Clinton has a double-digit lead over

A 'Law & Order' Presidential
Candidate? "Law & Order" star and
former U.S. senator Fred Dalton Thompson is
considering a bid for the White House that
would test whether Hollywood can once again
launch a Republican to the world's premier
political stage.
Big Support in Texas for Fred
Thompson The campaign to draft
former United States Senator Fred Thompson
received a big boost today when it was joined
by three prominent statewide officials in
Texas. Texas Land Commissioner Jerry
Patterson, Texas Railroad Commissioner Victor
Carrillo, and National Committeewoman Denise
McNamara all have voiced their strong support
for a Thompson candidacy.
Denise
McNamara on Dobson and
Thompson The
comments made by Dr.
Dobson to the U.S. News and World Report
regarding possible presidential candidate
Fred Thompson were inappropriate. (Read
article here.) Dr. Dobson is a Gingrich
supporter and has had Newt Gingrich on his
radio program to publicly discuss Newt's past
marital infidelities and indiscretions.
James Dobson’s Sin I have
always thought Pope Gregory the Great’s list
of Seven Deadly sins was one short. He left
off my nominee for number one: hypocrisy.
Clearly, this puts me at odds with Dr. Jim
Dobson, evangelical leader and founder of
Focus on the Family.
Fred Thompson ... Not a
Christian? Just as the “Draft
Fred” movement has entered another gear, it
appears that Focus on the Family’s Dr. James
Dobson (a Gingrich supporter) is trying to
set it back.

A Different Kind of
Terror One of our society’s
greatest strengths—its openness—has also been
one of its glaring weaknesses. The al-Quaeda
terrorists who struck on 9/11 took advantage
of this openness, with devastating effects.
Nearly six years later, another group of

Middle East Inching Toward
War? by Gary Bauer This
has been anything but a “quiet week” on the
foreign policy scene. Shaken by Iran’s
seizure of British sailors and taken back by
the unusually harsh rhetoric coming out of
Saudi Arabia, western diplomats are scurrying
to parse the statements, hoping to read
between the lines what is very likely not
there.
