  • donmcleroy

According to recent reports, Governor Perry is preparing to appoint a new chairman of the State Board of Education (SBOE) to a two year term. According to these reports one of those under consideration for this position is SBOE member Don McLeroy from College Station. Don McLeroy has been a long-time friend and staunch supporter of home schooling and home school freedom and has attended several home school conferences.

Please make a call to Governor Perry's office at 512-463-2000 and ask him to appoint Don McLeroy as Chairman of the SBOE. He will be an outstanding and fair leader of that body. It is not necessary to identify yourself as a home schooler when you call. It is always beneficial to have a friend of home schooling in positions of leadership and authority. Thanks for taking a few minutes to make a call today or tomorrow. More information about Don is listed below.

Don McLeroy of Bryan was elected to the State Board of Education in November 1998 and re-elected in 2002 and 2006. McLeroy serves on the board's Committee on School Finance/Permanent School Fund. He previously served on the Committee on Planning and as vice chair of the board.

McLeroy is a dentist in Bryan. He served on the Bryan Independent School District Board of Trustees, to which he was elected in May 1997.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Doctor of Dental Science degree from The University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston.

McLeroy is a fourth-grade Sunday school teacher at Grace Bible Church in College Station and has been active in youth soccer and Boy Scouts. In his Boy Scout work, he was honored with the "District Award of Merit." He also served in the U.S. Army. McLeroy and his wife, Nancy, have two children.

As a member of the State Board of Education, McLeroy, a Republican, represents Anderson, Brazos, Camp, Cherokee, Delta, Falls, Fannin, Franklin, Freestone, Grimes, Henderson, Hopkins, Houston, Hunt, Kaufman, Lamar, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Navarro, Rains, Red River, Robertson, Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt, Walker, and Wood counties, as well as parts of Collin County.

Republican National Committeewoman for Texas Denise McNamara has sent this invitation for home schoolers to meet potential presidential candidate Fred Thompson at airport rallies in Houston and Dallas on July 25th. Former Republican Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee is vying for the lead in many polls among Republican contenders with former New York Mayor Rudy Guliani and is considered by many political observers to have the most consistent and conservative record of the top tier candidates. This will be a great "Good Citizenship" opportunity for home schoolers to meet a potential presidential candidate.
