Davis' Standing to Run Disputed

Democrat Wendy Davis' eligibility to run for the state Senate was called into question late Monday.

Ex-Lawmaker to Run as Democrat

Former state Rep. Nancy Moffat, who lost her seat in the Legislature a decade ago when she was defeated in the Republican primary by Vicki Truitt of Keller, is trying to win back the post by running as a Democrat in 2008. Last week, Moffat, 56, filed to run for the seat representing District 98.

Thompson Aims at 2nd Place, Democrats

A more fired-up Fred Thompson said yesterday he needs to finish second in Iowa's caucuses this week, and he went on the attack, accusing Democratic leaders of having let their party be hijacked by liberal interest groups.

Both Parties in Texas Like '08 Chances

With polls showing voter dissatisfaction in Texas mirroring a national mood, state Democrats believe they will have the "wind" to their backs for the first time in a dozen years in the 2008 elections.

GOP Base Scatters to Rival Camps

The long-standing coalition of social, economic and national security conservatives that elevated the Republican Party to political dominance has become so splintered by the presidential primary campaign that some party leaders fear a protracted nomination fight that could hobble the eventual nominee.

Spunky Homeschool on Huckabee and Homeschoolers

by Ned Ryun

I alluded to Spunky Homeschool's blogs on Huckabee and homeschooling and figure it deserves a separate posting. Having been at HSLDA, I enjoyed the fact that she made it quite obvious the discrepancy between HSLDA's strong stances against Huckabee's legislation, and then its endorsement of him. I would encourage everyone, homeschooler or not, to read the Spunky Homeschool blogs. If nothing else, they show what Huckabee is all about.

The Case for Immoral Politicians

by Rick Casey

If being confronted by brief footage of the naked breasts of beautiful women offends you, don't go see Charlie Wilson's War.

Flashback: The Real John McCain

by Patrick Ruffini

In preparation for a John McCain presidential run, I clipped out what is perhaps the seminal article on McCain's transformation from a Goldwater conservative to a maverick quasi-Democrat during the 2000 campaign and the early Bush years. Jonathan Chait's assessment of just how far McCain had gone to the left in the April 29, 2002 issue of The New Republic stood out even at the time. I Googled it a few years later, and saved the full text. It is no longer available on TNR's website.

The Great Divide

by Paul Krugman

Yesterday The Times published a highly informative chart laying out the positions of the presidential candidates on major issues. It was, I'd argue, a useful reality check for those who believe that the next president can somehow usher in a new era of bipartisan cooperation.

Conservative Courts Likely to Be Bush Legacy

After nearly seven years in the White House, President Bush has named 294 judges to the federal courts, giving Republican appointees a solid majority of the seats, including a 60%-to-40% edge over Democrats on the influential U.S. appeals courts.

Special Iowa Report

The surprising results of last night's Iowa Republican caucus were devastating for former Gov. Mitt Romney and vindicating for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, but the biggest winner may have been Sen. John McCain (Ariz.).
