Texas Democrats went into the 2008 elections with a long list of goals, including taking back a majority in the Texas House of Representatives, and turning Harris County blue following Dallas County's switch in 2006. 

Democratic activists at the state convention in June showed confidence that these goals could be well within reach, in large part thanks to an unprecedented Democratic turnout in the Texas primary pitting Hillary Clinton against the ultimate nominee, Barack Obama. Democratic triumph seemed only a matter of time. 

Then John McCain asked a hockey mom to be his running mate. What does Alaska's governor, the formidable Sarah Palin, mean for Texas politics?
