The woman who may have prompted a raid on the FLDS Ranch in Texas won't go to trial until next year. The Deseret News reports 33-year-old Rozita Swinton waived her right to a speedy trial at a Colorado Springs court hearing yesterday. Her trial is now set for January 2009.

In the Founders' Own Words

by Justice Don R. Willett, Texas Supreme Court

September 17 is Constitution Day, when Americans celebrate the birthday of our government and the 39 brave souls who signed the document that altered history.  As a Texas jurist, and a concealed handgun license-holder, I know that my fellow Texans love freedom ...and firearms. So no surprise when the Lone Star State combined the two and led a successful 31-state charge in the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the District of Columbia's gun ban. The Court's landmark Heller decision last June agreed 5-4 with Texas that "the District of Columbia's categorical gun ban is markedly out of step with the judgment of the legislatures of the fifty States, all of which protect the right of private citizens to own handguns."

Presidential Election

by Tara Tedrow
The Left's breakdown over all things Palin was as predictable as it is encouraging. To paraphrase Obama, they are embittered, clinging to their lies and disdain all things patriotic and all things religious. They have a deep antipathy toward those in power who happen to be Christian, rural, Republican, or in a uniform of any kind. Their pro-amnesty, heartfelt anti-Americanism is the reason for the tidal wave of energy and enthusiasm that McCain's selection of Gov. Sarah Palin has unleashed.

A Debate Obama Cannot Win

by The Washing Times Editorial Staff

Barack Obama's campaign for the presidency is faltering mostly because he misrepresented himself to the American people. He promised new and authentic politics; unity and bipartisanship; and reform of Washington. He touted his impeccable judgement - as evidenced by his early opposition to the Iraq war and the surge. He thus set the terms of the election debate. Yet the very terms he established are the ones he cannot win with. His record simply does not correspond to his rhetoric.

Palin Jolts Capitol, Energizes Republicans

John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate has given Republican lawmakers new hope of minimizing anticipated losses in the November 4 congressional elections.

Why Feminists Hate Sarah Palin

by Cathy Young

Left-wing feminists have a hard time dealing with strong, successful conservative women in politics such as Margaret Thatcher. Sarah Palin seems to have truly unhinged more than a few, eliciting a stream of vicious, often misogynist invective.

Obama Can't Win Against Palin

by Karl Rove

Of all the advantages Gov. Sarah Palin has brought to the GOP ticket, the most important may be that she has gotten into Barack Obama's head. How else to explain Sen. Obama's decision to go one-on-one against "Sarah Barracuda," captain of the Wasilla High state basketball champs?

Troopergate Probe Running into New Resistance

Alaska's investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power, a potentially damaging distraction for John McCain's presidential campaign, ran into intensified resistance Tuesday from state Republican lawmakers who want to end it or delay it past the election.

Barack Obama Raises Millions in Beverly Hills

It was clear why Barack Obama's campaign barred television crews from a Beverly Hills mansion at twilight Tuesday as the Democratic presidential nominee mingled with movie stars on a giant terrace overlooking Los Angeles.

Pushing Back

by Gary Bauer

On Monday, we reported to you the potentially explosive charge by Amir Taheri that Barack Obama attempted to dissuade Iraqi politicians from finalizing an agreement with the Bush Administration on the status of U.S. troops in Iraq. The Obama campaign reacted angrily to Taheri's column and denounced the charge. Taheri is pushing back and reiterating the accuracy of his column - citing Barack Obama's own words!

The Gibson Doctrine

by Dennis Prager

Sarah Palin's reputation survived her interview with ABC News' Charlie Gibson.  The same cannot be said for Charlie Gibson.

Barack, Revealed

by Pete Hegseth

Obama's self-serving machinations in Iraq bespeak a candidate unfit to be commander-in-chief.  Monday's New York Post included a revealing column by Amir Taheri, a respected commentator on the Middle East. The piece, bolstered by firsthand reporting, provided a troubling glimpse into Senator Barack Obama's trip to Iraq in July.

Enough of the Palin Feeding Frenzy

by Jeff Jacoby

In politics, cheap shots and invective are occupational hazards. But when have we seen anything to match the frenzy of rage and contempt set off by the nomination of Sarah Palin?

The ABCs Of Home Schooling

For a growing number of American students, "homework" is two words, not one, and a classroom is the one place they're not likely to be, because when it comes to education, for these students and their parents, there's no place like home.

 There They Go Again

For all its talk about "tolerance" and "progressive values," there is a totalitarian impulse on the Left. It is most evident in the militant homosexual rights movement and the anti-war crowd that shouts down opponents on college campuses and in congressional hearings when members of the military or the administration try to testify. We saw the worst of it at the Republican National Convention when leftwing anarchists smashed windows, assaulted police officers, plotted to kidnap delegates and repeatedly interrupted Senator McCain's acceptance speech.

But the latest manifestation is even more disturbing, because it is coming right out of a presidential campaign that is supposed to be all about the free debate of ideas. On August 28th, we told you about how the Obama campaign itself - not some leftwing group, but the campaign - has organized protests of radio stations when well-informed conservatives, like Dr. Stanley Kurtz, have been invited to appear on a show. Well, the Obama camp has done it again. This time the target was conservative columnist and author David Freddoso, who wrote The Case Against Barack Obama.
