Hillary's Whopper
We've focused a lot in the past week on Senator Barack Obama's
credibility, but we haven't forgotten about Hillary. It's not breaking news
to say that politicians often exaggerate, but here is an example of
Hillary's disconnect from reality.
For the past few weeks, she's told campaign audiences that she faced down
death during a visit to Bosnia when she was First Lady. To hear Hillary
tell it, her plane "landed under sniper fire," the formal greeting ceremony
was scrubbed and "instead we just ran with our heads down to get into thev
ehicles to get to our base."
This is all part of her attempt to portray herself as tough, "ready on day
one" and experienced enough to be commander-in-chief. But now several folks
who attended the trip with her are all saying that the scene Hillary has
been describing didn't happen. According to the Washington Post, "Are view
of nearly 100 news accounts of her visit shows that not a single
newspaper or television station reported any security threat to the First
Lady."
John Pomfret, a reporter who covered the trip, said, "As a former AP wire
service hack, I can safely say that it would have been in my lead had
anything like that happened." In fact, pictures taken of the event on the
tarmac show Hillary and Chelsea, surrounded by smiling dignitaries, bending
over to kiss a small girl who had just finished reading a poem.
The comedian Sinbad, who was on the trip with Mrs. Clinton, along with
singer Sheryl Crow, told the Post, "I think the only 'red-phone' moment was:
'Do we eat here or at the next place.' What kind of president [referring to
then-President Bill Clinton] would say, 'Hey man, I can't go 'cause I might
get shot so I'm going to send my wife. Oh, and take a
uitar player and a comedian with you.'"
Jeremiah and Jesus?
The new pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ defended Reverend Jeremiah
Wright in an Easter sermon that compared Wright's media coverage to a
"lynching" and likened him to Jesus Christ. Here is an excerpt of Rev. Otis
Moss' sermon:
"No one should start a ministry with a lynching, no one should end their
ministry with a lynching. The lynching was national news. The RNN, the
Roman News Network, was reporting it and NPR, the National Publican Radio
had it on the radio. The Jerusalem Post and the Palestine Times all wanted
exclusives, they searched out the young ministers, showed up unannounced at
their houses, tried to talk with their families, called up their friends,
wanted to get a quote on, 'How do you feel about the lynching?'"
Meanwhile, the controversial views of Reverend Wright are still gaining
attention. Friday, WorldNetDaily posted an article noting that Rev. Wright
had reprinted a Hamas manifesto on the "Pastor's Page" of church's
newsletter on July 22, 2007, titled, "A Fresh View of the Palestinian
Struggle."
The article was written by Mousa Abu Marzook, who Israeli officials contend
has been "directly involved in calling for or planning scores of Hamas
terrorist offensives, including deadly suicide bombings."
For his part, Barack Obama continues to stand by his church and Reverend
Wright. According to one press report, Obama recently taped an interview
with The Michael Smerconish Show that is scheduled to air today, in which he
says, "This is not a crackpot church."
Defund Planned Parenthood
Though Planned Parenthood boastfully presents itself as the champion of
"responsible" sexuality and child bearing, a detailed look into some of its
activities has uncovered a trail of deception and corruption. The
pro-abortion organization received over $305 million in taxpayer-funded
subsidies in 2006. But, this funding of abortions with your tax dollars may
not last for long.
As I note in my most recent Human Events column, Congress will soon have a
chance to ban federal funding for Planned Parenthood and its dishonest and
immoral practices. To read and comment on my Human Events piece please go
