Black Muslim Raids

For two years the FBI has been conducting an undercover investigation of a group called Ummah (the brotherhood) made up mostly of African American converts to Islam. Ummah’s goal is to establish Sharia-law within the United States by any means necessary.

On Wednesday, the FBI raided several Ummah facilities, made a dozen arrests and killed an “imam,” Luqman Ameen Abdullah in a shoot-out when he refused to surrender.

Abdullah was a hate-filled jihadist. A 43-page federal indictment released last night gives chilling details of what this thug was doing at his mosque in Detroit, Michigan. He taught his radical congregation that criminal acts were acceptable if they advanced Islam. He told them it was imperative for them to support Al Qaeda, the Taliban and Hezbollah and that the goal was to force all infidels (us!) to live under Muslim rule.

It is amazing that, eight years after 9/11, this jihadist was preaching his hatred and revolutionary doctrine in the heartland of America. It would be foolish to believe this is the only mosque where sedition and hatred are being promoted.

Almost as disturbing as this news was the reaction to the arrests and shoot-out by the leadership of CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations). CAIR is continually presented as “moderate” by big media and by the Obama Administration. Dawud Walid, head of CAIR’s Michigan branch, immediately defended Abdullah, calling him a “respectable imam in the Muslim community,” and cited his work with the homeless.

Then, unbelievably, Walid said he and other imams plan to complain to the FBI because the Bureau repeatedly mentioned Islam in their indictment. Walid said that when other people are arrested their faith isn’t relevant.

Well, Walid, when someone is an average thug their faith or lack thereof isn’t usually relevant. But when an imam uses the Koran to inspire fellow Muslims to overthrow the government and enslave non-Muslims, radical Islam is central to the case. If there are any “moderate” Muslims in Detroit/Dearborn – it is your move. The microphone is open. The cameras are ready. Will you condemn these murderers in your midst?


Here Come The Cuts

There are some political realities as certain as death and taxes. Here are two: Democrats will raise your taxes and Democrats will cut defense spending. We got the first indication yesterday from Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) that major defense cuts are coming.

Speaking to reporters, Reed said, “There is going to be significant pressure on the defense budget going forward. …There is a domestic crisis now that is requiring significant unexpected resources and then the ‘good news’ is when we fix it then we have the challenge and opportunity to fix the deficit. That is tough going.”

Reed went on to warn of “painful adjustments” for the Pentagon. At the top of Reed’s target list are advanced weapons systems that have made America the world’s sole superpower, thanks in large part to our superior technology, which saves lives of U.S. personnel and greatly reduces civilian casualties.

I’m often asked, “If conservatives take back Congress, can we reverse the damage?” Well, this is one area where it is very hard to play catch up. Advanced weapons systems take years to develop. If the programs are cancelled, engineers and designers are laid off. They find work elsewhere. Factories are shut down. Sure they can be restarted, and people can be rehired. But that takes time and even more money.

Many folks complained about the difficulties we experienced in the Iraq War. Many, myself included, argued that we should have deployed a larger force than what was initially sent. But in between the first Gulf War and the Iraq War was the last Democrat administration, which gutted our national defense, leaving President Bush few options to work with after America was attacked just nine months into his term.

And let’s not forget the context in which these cuts are being planned. North Korea is lobbing missiles. Russia is flexing its muscles. China is spending aggressively on its military to develop a deep water navy to rival ours and dominate Asia. Iran is working furiously on nuclear weapons. Meanwhile here at home, Obama and his liberal allies in Congress are on the verge of foisting another trillion-dollar entitlement program on the nation.

We’ve just spent nearly a trillion dollars to stimulate the economy, and yet unemployment is approaching double digits. GMAC, the financial arm of Government Motors, is asking for billions more in taxpayer aid. If Government Motors is making cars the American people don’t want, then shut it down. Stop wasting taxpayer dollars on bailouts and socialist schemes, and use our money for the government’s primary constitutional obligation – provide for the defense of this nation!

But I’ll make two predictions: In the months ahead, Obama and Democrats in Congress will use the economic crisis and burgeoning debt as an excuse to gut our national defense. They will use socialized healthcare, as liberal politicians do in Europe, to cut defense spending. And just as this administration has demonized Wall Street, banks, oil companies, insurance companies and others who object to its leftwing policies, it will also demonize defense contractors in its drive to disarm America.
