Addicting Government, Forcing Football, Killing Jobs, Spending Restraint
Dear Friend,
The hubris of the government planners varies between scary and laughable. Social
engineers keep whining to the press that thousands of “eligible” children are
not enrolled in the government health “insurance” plan. Their solution, of
course, is to spend a lot of your money to “educate” wayward parents into
placing their kids in the care of government bureaucracy.
Get Hooked On Government
[Tell
us what you think!]
It never seems to occur to these do-gooders that maybe
moms and dads, even low-income moms and dads, aren’t interested in letting
meddlesome bureaucrats take care of junior. So the bureaucrats launch
multi-million-dollar advertising campaigns that “reach out” to parents and
encourage them to latch kids to the government teat.
"Texas is a very large state,
and it's very difficult to get that information out," said the CHIP/Children's
Medicaid outreach campaign manager Geoff Wool, according to the Austin
American Statesman.
Am I the only person on the planet who is disgusted that a government program
has a campaign manager? What a joke. Before too long government programs
will host talk shows, have book deals, and spend time in rehab clinics.
Bench The Legislators
[Tell
us what you think!]
State lawmakers are poised to take sides in the battle
between the NFL and cable companies. Not unusual, politicians tend to be a
meddlesome bunch, sticking their noses in economic places they shouldn’t. The
real problem, of course, is that in doing so lawmakers will run roughshod over
your wallet in an effort to appease wealthy team owners.
State representatives will hold a December 10 hearing at the Texas Capitol, to
“take public testimony over the recent dispute between the NFL Network and cable
providers regarding the availability of NFL games on cable networks.”
Translation: The House Regulated Industries Committee will pose for official
pictures with famous people just in time for campaign flyers to be printed. You
won’t see the charge for that on your cable bill next month, but it’ll only be a
matter of time.
NFL owners find it morally acceptable to tax you out of house and home to build
their stadiums (the
people of Arlington are feeling buyers’ remorse now that they are
committed to paying for a new house for Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys that they
cannot visit), so of course these moguls don’t have any qualms about
legislatively forcing everyone to buy their cable network.
Job Killer
[Tell
us what you think!]
The National Federation of
Independent Business chapter in Texas is out in force warning their members not
to ignore the new “gross margins tax” that they’ll start paying next year. This
monstrosity will increase small businesses’ tax burden by as much as 1,000
percent. And since the overwhelming majority of the jobs in Texas are found in
“small business,” the potential devastation is even more apparent.
Holiday Giving
Our
effectiveness is due in large part to the generous contributions of like-minded
friends from across the state. I hope you’ll consider making a contribution to
either our advocacy organization,
Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, or to our political action committee,
the
Empower Texans PAC.
A simple $10 gift will go a very long way in promoting a prosperous
Texas. You’ll be helping to empower right-thinking that implements public
policies guided by individual liberty, free markets and limited government.
For Texas,
Michael
