The terrible miscarriage of justice continues in the Tutt case. The next hearing in the case will be this Friday, February 28, 2014, in the 302nd District Court in Dallas County at the George Allen Courts Building in downtown Dallas at 2:00 p.m. Since many have asked how they can help this family, I would like to encourage those who can to attend this hearing in support of the family. It would be encouraging to the family and a show of public support to those who are involved in this case.
If you cannot attend, please pray for fairness and justice to be served in this hearing and that the child and sibling of two of the children who have been reunited with their parents would be removed from foster care and placed with the family. Please also pray that the pending adoption of this child in Tarrant County would move forward without delay so that this child can be reunited with her siblings and her adoptive parents. There has been some concern raised about this situation, due to a reported contact of the Tarrant County Court by a Dallas County official.
The children restored to the Tutts continue to struggle with the trauma of their experience with CPS, and the parents have sought professional help for them. It also appears that CPS has sought the children’s records from the public school that they have been forced to attend by the court.
THSC is also working to help the Tutt family with the legal costs of defending their children, and other legal remedies are also under consideration. In addition, we received a letter from the commissioner of the Department of Family and Protective Services in response to my letter to him regarding the Tutt case and CPS officials’ handling of this case. A review of the case, he said, has led him to feel sure that the officials handled the situation according to CPS policies and procedures and that they are only responsible for making a recommendation to the judge.
Suffice it to say that we strongly disagree with his department’s assessment. I will be responding to him soon to make that clear to him as well as to the Governor and legislators. THSC’s directors met last weekend and directed me to pursue this case aggressively. We intend to pursue every legal, legislative, and political means at our disposal to help this family and to hold accountable those responsible for this travesty.
Thank you for your prayers and support for the Tutts and THSC as we move forward on this critical issue. If you wish to send the family a note of encouragement, you may do so in the comment section. If you would like to help them financially with legal costs, please make a contribution the THSC Parental Rights Litigation Fund.
