AUSTIN, February 16, 2015 – On Thursday, House Bill 347, also known as the Tim Tebow bill, was referred to the Public Education Committee in the Texas House of Representatives.
HB 347, which was filed by Representative Harold Dutton, was read for the first time on February 12 before its referral to the Public Education Committee.
The Texas Home School Coalition and supporters of the bill are focusing efforts on passing the bill in the House this session. Last session, the Tim Tebow bill passed in the Senate Education Committee and on the Senate Floor with wide support from the members.
Representatives Jason Villalba, James Frank, and Jeff Leach are among the joint authors currently listed for the bill. The Texas Home School Coalition and supporters of the bill are pushing to have the bill heard in committee as early as possible in order to ensure passage on the House Floor.
With the bill having passed easily out of the Senate last session, supporters of the bill are optimistic as the bill begins its way through the process and the issue continues to gain support from the Texas Legislature and the citizens of Texas.
