I love stories. I love telling them, reading them, and watching them. One of my favorite things to do is to enjoy stories with the children in my life. I’m not a mom yet, but I have lots of nephews, nieces, and friends whom I love dearly, and reading with them is so much fun for me. What is even more exciting is when they make that little innocent comment later that tells you, “I get it. I understood, and I’m applying this idea!”
A couple years ago, Savannah (who was five at the time) and I were reading a story together. The story was rich in symbolism of our Christian life and the illustrations were beautiful. I expected her to enjoy the story but not really understand it that well. A few hours later I was walking beside her as she was wobbling along on her training wheels. I was trying to encourage her not to look at the little dips in the road but rather to look straight ahead at her mom who was just ahead of us. With her little knuckles white on the handlebars, she said, “Just like in the story, the boy looked straight ahead and wasn’t distracted by the things around him.” I almost fell over backwards! It was that moment that I knew SHE understood and had learned from our story.
As parents, you probably get to see these moments often . . . when you realize that what you are teaching and the stories you are telling your children make connections in their hearts and minds. Are you equipped, though, with the RIGHT stories? Do you have godly man-building and woman-building stories to inspire YOU to inspire them?
This is one reason that I am passionate about Kids Convention. I want to give parents time to look, listen, and learn stories and ideas that will help them guide their little men and women. THSC’s Conventions offer you materials and tools that foster a love for the Lord and His ways. While you are doing that, Kids Convention steps in for a brief moment of your lives and KEEPS sharing those lessons and stories that will become part of your children and their home school experience.
While you partake in encouragement and fulfillment at workshops and visiting booths in the exhibit hall, your children soak up the fun and biblical teaching. Check out this video to see past attendees explain what happens at Kids Convention.
Our goal is that when you drive away from Kids Convention, your children will be overflowing with the stories they have heard and that you will be refreshed and eager to say, “I have a story for you too . . . .”
