The THSC Watchmen are charged with ensuring parental rights and homeschool freedoms are protected during the Texas legislative session. They will analyze thousands of bills, lobby legislators and testify in committees.
This year, THSC will have its largest-ever group in Austin—with six THSC Watchmen and three public policy department staff.
Leading up to the 2017 legislative session, we will introduce the THSC Watchmen and allow them to explain why our mission of Keeping Texas Families Free is so important to them. Previously, we introduced Meagan Corser and Paul Exley. Now meet homeschool alum Vida Mata who enjoys sports, theater and film, and being involved in church ministries.
We all want to make a difference. I’ve always had the desire to help, so I tried the best way I knew how—in my church and my community—but to me, I never felt like what I was doing was very useful or impactful. So I began praying that God would open a door for me to serve in an area that I could see the effects of my work.
When I heard about the THSC Watchmen and all they do to protect Texas families, I knew that I had to be a part of it. The work we’ll be doing during this session is so important and we know it will make a difference.
John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” If we as homeschoolers become complacent and inactive in the legislative process, the thief will steal, kill and destroy the progress we’ve made in securing freedoms for homeschoolers.
I joined the THSC Watchmen so that I can do my part in protecting parental and homeschool rights for Texans. I have so many friends and family who are homeschooled, so I feel it is my duty to participate in ensuring they are free to obtain an education in the way their parents deem best.
We have strong opposition; if we as homeschoolers don’t actively fight and hold onto our rights, they’ll be taken away. Since the THSC Watchmen is a team of homeschoolers, we have firsthand knowledge of how important it is and what we value, and we are best equipped to combat the thief who would seek to regulate homeschooling.
The THSC Watchmen truly are the first line of defense for families and parents in Austin, and they need your support in continuing to Keep Texas Families Free…
