Training the Teenage Heart for Real World Experiences, A Guide to Being Ready
In this webinar, we show the intellectual and moral pressures facing the next generation in college. We also demonstrate a practical approach to reaching the next generation through culture translation and family discipleship.
What is Teen Staff (TS)?
TS is a unique program that combines
- Service Jobs around the Convention
- Educational Workshops geared toward young people
- Team Building Activities
- Fun Group Games
How does it all work?
Teen Staff are trained to help with many behind-the-scenes conference duties. Teens will be placed on teams and will get to know their fellow staffers as they build leadership and teamwork skills throughout the event. Over the course of the Convention, teams will rotate through a series of workshops, activities, and service jobs, many of which require interacting with convention attendees. Each team has a “Gold Shirt” team leader to train and encourage the team.
To better serve the needs of the Convention, Teen Staff will partially take place at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, where Kids Convention is held. Shuttle service will be provided.
Parents should understand that while Gold Shirts work closely with their team, teens are often spread throughout the Convention Center when serving and have small breaks throughout the day. In light of this, we ask that registered teens be mature enough to stay with the group and have the ability to meet back with their team at specified times.

See what former staffers have to say!
“Teen staff was an awesome way to spend my time not only serving others but making some of the greatest friends I’ve ever had! I look forward to it every summer. It’s not summer without Teen Staff!”-Kelsey, age 16
“The most enjoyable thing about Teen Staff was meeting awesome people and accomplishing tasks with them. Also, hearing the awesome Bible studies in workshop and answering the questions. Yeah, I love everything about it.”-Aliyah, age 13
What if I want my teen to attend a workshop with me or shop with me in the exhibit hall?
Parents are welcome to excuse their teen for a period of time; they simply need to notify the team leader.
How will I know when my teen is off-site?
When teens check in, they and their parents will receive a detailed schedule.
What if my teen can only attend one day?
Teen Staff is a two or three-day commitment. Each registrant is needed to accomplish their assigned service jobs as well as the planned activities. Please plan accordingly.
I have a mature 12 year old; do you make age exceptions?
Due to the popularity of Teen Staff (we usually fill up!), we cannot make any age exceptions.
Who will be working with my teen?
The Teen Staff leadership are comprised of home school graduates and parents. Additionally, each team has a “Gold Shirt” team leader. Gold Shirts are generally home schooled students or graduates and must complete an application process to be approved to serve. All adult volunteers working in the program have undergone a background check and completed Child Protection Training.
How closely will my teen be supervised?
Each team has a “Gold Shirt” team leader to guide them through the scheduled program. Teens will interface with their team leader hourly, however, we treat Teen Staff as young adults. They will not be “checked in” or “checked out” by parents. Teens will move about the facility freely during service jobs, breaks, or other scheduled activities.
Teens are expected to conduct themselves in a courteous manner. For the benefit of the TSP as a whole, teens who are disrespectful and/or uncooperative will be excused from the program without a refund.

Teen Staff Speakers
The mission of AXIS is to empower the next generation to think clearly and critically about what they believe and to take ownership of their faith. They do this by using parents as the resources for discipling and transferring their faith legacy to their children as they face life’s questions and challenges.
Teen Staff Workshop Sessions will be added soon!
