There are a wide variety of homeschool groups available to meet the academic, social, and extra curricular needs of homeschooling families. Home educators should know the types of groups that are available in order to choose the groups that best align with their goals.

Joining a homeschool group has many benefits! However, the group should not attempt to become an authority over the student’s education. That’s the parent’s job.

All homeschool groups listed on our site seek to serve families who have chosen parent-directed, private education for their children according to this definition of homeschooling. In addition, these groups have confirmed that 51% or more of their member families engage in parent-directed instruction.

Homeschool groups typically offer a vast amount of resources for families that meet each child at their individual stages of growth and development. Many groups also offer assistance and courses of instruction for special needs and gifted students.

Ordinarily, groups cannot be categorized simply by one definition since they provide numerous activities for their members.

Homeschool groups are known to offer co-op classes such as theater, music, art, core classes, and sports. In addition, some offer field trip opportunities, play groups, science fairs, spelling bees, various clubs, curriculum resources, academic testing, prom, and graduation ceremonies.
