Respite is something every mom and dad need, and THSC recognizes this need is especially great for special needs home schooling families. The THSC Buddy Programs were designed with the unique considerations in mind. The goal of these programs is to meet these families and their children at many different levels of special needs respite care during the THSC Conventions so every family member receives the most optimal THSC experience.
Here are our four programs you can choose from in The Woodlands to make your child’s THSC Buddy Program experience fit perfectly:
- Special Buddies – This is the traditional Special Buddies program you know and love. Buddies stay in one room with one caregiver assigned to them for the whole weekend. Your child will be loved on and spoiled and will also participate in various VBS-style bible story readings and activities specifically modified to each buddy’s physical and cognitive abilities.
- On-site Club Buddies – This is the traditional Special Buddies program with a VBS twist. Buddies will be placed in one of two small groups, sensory or active and mobile. Both groups will have VBS activities that mirror the Kids Convention program, but material will be presented in a modified format to meet specific physical and cognitive needs of registered participants. Most buddies will be paired up with a peer who will aid them with activities. In The Woodlands, the Kids Convention large group activities will be viewed from a pre-recorded video made during the Arlington Kids Convention.
- Off-site Club Buddies (available only at The Woodlands Convention) – A sister program to On-site Club Buddies, this program will function the same as the On-site Club Buddies program but will take place at the Kids Convention off-site location. Kids in this program will do the same activities as Kids Convention participants but in a quiet, more relaxed environment with more one-on-one attention. The group will participate in the large group Kids Convention activities rather than watching them on video.
- Special Buddies Crew – This program is designed for older or more mature students who want to be a helpful part of the THSC Buddy Program. Crew members will be closely supervised by the THSC Buddy staff, while at the same time given the opportunity to serve others and learn new skills alongside an adult mentor. Each crew member will be assigned to a designated Buddy team based on their individual abilities and special needs.
